Before I came into the music industry I was a very shy and meek character. Now I’m a force of nature who won’t take any sh*t.....and I’ve carved a little name for myself. It’s a tough industry but for a woman it’s even harder (for obvious reasons). But we’re getting a stronger voice and there is so much support from men and women for females in producing and audio engineering roles. So be feisty, be confident and be self-assured and you can achieve anything #femaleproducer #femaleproducers #musicproducer #musicproducers #musicproducerlife #mixengineer #mixingengineer #mixingandmastering #studio #studiolife #recordingstudio #recording #atthestudio #londonstudio #studioporn #audioengineer #audioengineering #studiolife #studiosetup #plugins #musicadvice #musicproduction #musicproductiontips

It’s fader Friday!! What’s everyone’s studio/music plans this weekend? I’m working on a Christmas cover for @mayah.camara , producing some slick tracks for @arlinwcarter and finishing off a mix for @londonalanaking I’m going to attempt a day off on Sunday! My commercial studio is professionally soundproofed and has a separate control room and live room.....but hardware wise it’s fairly simple. I have my pre-amps, monitors and effects unit but the rest is all software. It means I can produce on location (which is handy over Christmas when I travel back home to Liverpool). Which are you? An Analog Ace or a Digital Demon? #femaleproducer #femaleproducers #musicproducer #musicproducers #musicproducerlife #mixengineer #mixingengineer #mixingandmastering #studio #studiolife #recordingstudio #recording #atthestudio #londonstudio #studioporn #audioengineer #audioengineering #studiolife #studiosetup #plugins #musicadvice #musicproduction #musicproductiontips #moodlights

Question: would you approach a graphic designer and ask them to design and create a portfolio of work for free? Would you approach an accountant and ask them to give you a free service? Of course you wouldn’t! So why do so many people think the same applies for music producing? And producing that comes with free mixing and mastering on the side! Producers quite simply offer a service. You would be paying for their experience, skills, equipment and studio and will usually get a top class product at the end. A free service or a 50% cut of royalties from an unknown artist wouldn’t be fair. Please do respect the producer and offer them payment for their services. *******A note of advice for independent artists- I wouldn’t pay over £1000 a song for any producer who doesn’t have hit record credits. A reasonable fee for a talented producer with decent credits and reviews should be between £300 -£800 a song, in my opinion and based on what I’ve seen #femaleproducer #femaleproducers #musicproducer #musicproducers #musicproducerlife #mixengineer #mixingengineer #mixingandmastering #studio #studiolife #recordingstudio #recording #atthestudio #londonstudio #studioporn #audioengineer #audioengineering #studiolife #studiosetup #plugins #musicadvice #musicproduction #musicproductiontips #memes #musicmemes #onedoesnotsimply

I was late to the party with this trick and I’d always put reverb directly on each individual channel insert. Whilst there’s nothing wrong with that approach, when I changed to putting my reverbs on the return/sends and therefore standardised my reverb sounds across the mix, my mixes just sounded smoother and neater. I’ve always EQ’d my reverb because the big spacious muddy low end was too a bit too 1980s even for me! So by hi-passing the reverb it creates a nice clean reverb with a smooth and blended edge. Give it a try and let me know how you get on! #femaleproducer #femaleproducers #musicproducer #musicproducers #musicproducerlife #mixengineer #mixingengineer #mixingandmastering #studio #studiolife #recordingstudio #recording #atthestudio #londonstudio #studioporn #audioengineer #audioengineering #studiolife #studiosetup #plugins #musicadvice #musicproduction #musicproductiontips #reverb #aux #aubreywhitfield

The amount of times I hear this in the studio! The others are: can you make me sound like Shawn Mendes, Dua Lipa or Taylor Swift. My advice - be yourself and be influenced and inspired by others rather than tying to imitate. It’s the only way to break boundaries #femaleproducer #femaleproducers #femalemusicproducer #protools #musicproducer #audioengineer #recordingengineer #studioporn #memes #indieartist #musicindustry #beatmaker #musicproduction #musicmemes #mixing #mixengineer #recordingstudio #studiolife #musicquotes #popmusic #unsigned #studio #producergrind #producerlife #womeninmusic #cardib

Haha 😂😂😂 Any other producers out there get these kind of messages? I’m sure some people think I’m a magician who can fart out a full production, mix and master whilst I’m having a sleep. If you have one of these clients you know you’ll get the same message another 24 hours later 😂. #femaleproducer #femaleproducers #femalemusicproducer #protools #musicproducer #audioengineer #recordingengineer #studioporn #memes #beatmaker #musicproduction #musicmemes #mixing #mixengineer #recordingstudio #studiolife #musicquotes #studio #producergrind #producerlife #womeninmusic #funnymemes #musicjobs #musiccareer

I’ve had tonnes of requests recently for YouTube video tutorials on how I produce and mix. So I have now filmed my first ‘deconstructing a mix’. The first video will walk you through a production I did for one of the British Eurovision entries for 2019. The track is a modern soul disco song with a fairly simple but vintage sound. I’ll talk through my mix settings and how I produced the track. The 25 minute video will air on IGTV in the next couple of days so turn on post notifications so you don’t miss a trick! #femaleproducer #femaleproducers #femalemusicproducer #protools #musicproducer #audioengineer #recordingengineer #studioporn #beatmaker #musicproduction #mixengineer #recordingstudio #studiolife #studio #mixing #popmusic #studio #producergrind #producerlife #womeninmusic #souldisco

Haha! If you’re dating a producer - know the rules! No calls during studio time please and no ‘you spend too much times in the studio’ quips 😜😂

That’s right, if someone streams your song on Spotify for less than 30 seconds then it doesn’t count and you don’t get paid. Most listeners wait to hear the first verse before deciding whether they like a track or not. Therefore, having a long intro which could bore an impatient thrill seeking listener is only going to prompt them to skip to the next track. Particularly on Spotify with all these playlists and release radars - never has there been so much choice at our fingertips. So if the start to your song doesn’t grab their attention right away then you’ve lost them, and that royalty. That is why record labels come down heavily on record producers to ensure that songs have short intros and are around 3.30 long (maximum). I’m not saying I agree with all this and it’s frustrating that our creative freedom is being stifled by rules like this (I love long intros and long songs). But if you want to break through on Spotify (which is how so many independent artists gain success these days) then you are giving yourself a massive advantage by keeping your intro only a few bars long and to making that intro really count. The music industry is all a game. You just have to play that game, whether you like it or not, if mainstream success is what you crave #playthegame #spotify #royalties #streaming #newmusic #songwriting #songs #femaleproducer #femaleproducers #femalemusicproducer #protools #musicproducer #audioengineer #recordingengineer #studioporn #beatmaker #musicproduction #mixing #mixengineer #recordingstudio #studiolife #musicquotes #studio #producerlife #womeninmusic

After multiple requests, I am now offering an online mix service. Although I am a Record Producer first and foremost, mixing has been a huge part of my work for so long. And many of you have asked me to mix your projects but I have politely declined. So that’s gonna change. If you are looking for a cool modern mix then DM me or drop me an email at aubrey@aubreywhitfield.com #femaleproducer #femaleproducers #femalemusicproducer #protools #musicproducer #audioengineer #recordingengineer #studioporn #beatmaker #musicproduction #mixing #mixengineer #recordingstudio #studiolife #unsigned #studio #producergrind #producerlife #womeninmusic #unsignedtalent #popmusic #onlinemixing

It’s fader Friday! As always, the weekends are busy for us music producers as everyone else is off work. This weekend is all about tracking vocal sessions, finishing off client projects and working on my own solo project @kodachromeofficial . What is everyone else up to this weekend? 👇🏼 #femaleproducer #femaleproducers #femalemusicproducer #protools #musicproducer #audioengineer #recordingengineer #studioporn #girlpower #indieartist #beatmaker #musicproduction #mixengineer #mixing #recordingstudio #studiolife #studio #producergrind #producerlife #womeninmusic #femalevocalist #singing #vocals #femalesingers #faderfriday

You know, 10 years ago I wouldn’t have been able to do this job, music producing. I didn’t have the life experience or communication skills. But working for 10 years in the U.K. Government helped with that immensely. What shocked me within my first 6 months of being a producer was the amount of different skills I needed to be successful. Not only did I need to be a musician, songwriter, mixer and audio engineer at the top of my game, but I also discovered that I needed to use my strong communication skills. Producers work with different personalities: some easy to work with, some difficult, some nervous, some arrogant. I consistently need to show a range of temperaments to put people at ease, to make them feel creative, to inspire them, to give them some tough constructive feedback. And every person will react differently meaning I have to change my approach and response to each individual I work with. Producers are providing a service to customers and that means we have to put the needs of the customer first and that isn’t always easy when you’re a creator. So if you are wanting to go into producing full time my advice is this: get as much life experience as you can - work with all kinds of people from different backgrounds, cultures and abilities and challenge your communication skills. Communication is probably just as important as musical ability when it comes to producing. That’s why you tend to find that most producers become successful in their 30s and upwards - that life experience and years of playing and writing has served us well. #femaleproducer #femaleproducers #femalemusicproducer #protools #musicproducer #audioengineer #recordingengineer #studioporn #beatmaker #musicproduction #musicmemes #mixing #mixengineer #recordingstudio #studiolife #musicquotes #studio #producergrind #producerlife #womeninmusic #musician #musicskills #musicadvice #communicationiskey #musicjobs
