This little teeny tiny dude (lady) was really far from the pond on campus where he probably lives. Picked her up after we were at the gym working out because she would have been squashed on the sidewalk by a bike! She was so scared and lost in the beginning, you can see she is all tucked into her shell in pic 2 and 3 but the minute she heard water she was he was ready to RUN. Could barely hold onto her long enough to send off at the waters edge. #olddominionuniversity #wildlife #turtle #babyturtle #babywildlife #wildliferescue #wherewereyougoingbuddy #turtlepic #wildlifephotography #ponds #fish #grass #summer #summerlife #summerwildlife #mommymomylookatthetwirtle #tiny #tinybutmighty

To get to this canyon a few years back it was quite the challenge. I found this slot canyon called ‘Zebra slot canyon’ on a hikers blog looking for somethig near Escalante that was unique. We never did make it to the actual ‘zebra stripes’ but it was an adventure. The instructions of other hikers explained: drive down a dirt road to a parking lot, there you will see the trail head. And boy was it a discreet trail head. Then, you have to walk through the desert for some time, multiple times it was almost impossible to keep track of the trail and mostly it was FLAT. So we kept wondering where on earth this canyon could be? Eventually we made it to the entrance and... who would of thought... it had rained like crazy the day before. The slot canyon was FLOODED full of REALLY cold water! I tried for awhile to venture deeper into the canyon but the water was eventually over my head and without clear waters I couldn’t grip the canyon walls or see my feet well enough in the water to keep going. BUT, it did result in this pretty awesome shot, maybe someday I’ll have to try again.. when it hasn’t rained the night before... #utah #escalante #escalantenationalmonument #hiking #slotcanyons #slotcanyon #desert #travel #adventure #landscape #mojavedesert #waterinadesert #mountains #canyons #reddirt #zebracanyon #zebracanyonslot #sand #redsand #landscapephotography

You could say I experienced just a little bit of snow while in Quebec City. The first photo is after 2 days of snowing, the second photo is what it looked like before. That hill was a monster to climb up and down, I gave up even trying to climb it once the snow got deep. Slipped and busted my but on day two attempting to go down that hill, in this second photo here it’s look so much less scary haha. The first photo shows the beginning of Old Quebec City, where 100 year old buildings line the streets, bordered by an old stone wall, equipped nicely with a tower and opening at the entrance of that part of town. Quebec City is one of the oldest continuously occupied European settlements on North American. Settled in 1608 it was a well establish beaver trade port almost 20 years before the mayflower landed in Plymouth Massachusetts. Everything about this town rings of old europe. Including the fact that most people’s first language is actually French, i, who speaks no French, was just a tad lost. I also always looked like a round ball with all my layers on to keep warm #Quebec #oldquebec #oldquebeccity #canada🇨🇦 #frenchquebec #garrisonwalledcity #settlement #oldeurope #snow #blizzard #cold #citywalls #outpost #beavertrade #frenchcuisine #travel #adventure #history #historic #historiccity #oldbuildings #lotsofsnow #winter #snowhill #photography #photooftheday #coldweather #belowzero #belowfreezing

I got a pretty...warm.. Quebec style welcome to Quebec City this past December. My first full day in the city we were hit by a rather massive snow storm. Temperatures were below freezing and with wind chill it was in the -20s. I had never experienced snow like that, the dry very cold and windy weather created snow that reminded me more of sand than the sticky wet snow I’m used to. EVERWHERE I walked was a massive work out, all of it up or downhill and in lots of sandy slippery like snow. Here is a fast snapshot of my first experience in a Quebec blizzard. #travel #Quebec #quebeccity #canada #snow #snowstorm #walking #walkinginablizzard #belowzero #negativetemps #french #frenchquebec #oldquebec #snowshoes #whiteout

The Mackenzie river delta is a fascinating place. THIS, is my bread and butter, my work, my connection to the ocean and the beginning of my scientific legacy. located in the Arctic Circle, the Mackenzie river empties directly into the Arctic Ocean with a delta two times that of the Mississippi River. The Mackenzie has the largest sediment load of all the rivers in the Arctic, one years worth of sediment deposited by the Mackenzie river is more than all the other river in the Arctic combined. I got to finally see this place in person this past October. It is quiet and mostly uninhabited, here I am in a helicopter on my way to a Canadian coast guard vessel. You can see in this imagine that even in October there are very few trees and very little human activity. #arctic #research #mackenzieriver #inuvik #canada #travel #science #earth #river #water #trees #sun #delta #expedition #helicopter #photooftheday #photography #lakes #ponds #runoff #fall #october #clouds #tributaries #northwestterritories #transit

Torres Del Paine is a rough and harsh place. The mountains accessible only but long hikes up the hillside. But when you do hike just a little ways up the hills bordering these rocky stone deserts you get a peak at things like this. Clouds skirting off the top and snow peaking through make this place seem other worldly to me. #patagonia #torresdelpaine #mountains #moutainpeaks #cliffs #clouds #parquenationaltorresdelpaine #torresdelpainenationalpark #sky #hikingpatagonia #travel #hiking #photography #scenery #fortaleza #cuernonorte #northhorn

I’m not sure if the mountains or the glaciers were more impressive in Patagonia. The strange but exciting folding on the earth would have many of my geology friends lost for hours in fascination. #mountains #moutainpeaks #ice #icebergs #glacier #mountianglacier #travel #hiking #river #rocks #meltingglacier #patagonia #torresdelpaine #magallanes #chile #puertonatales #nationalpark #photography #southamerica #meltwater #parquenationaltorresdelpaine
