Transport Burma style. What a country this is. Full of friendly, welcoming people who are not just out to make a fast buck. My hat ‘flew off’ on the road today and the Burmese guy who picked it up and brought it to me REFUSED a tip. He was just happy to do something for a fellow human. We can learn a lot from these people who, relative to us, have so very little. #oxcart #burma #myanmar #compassion #help #humanity

I took this picture of the sun setting over Taungthaman Lake, from U-Bein Bridge, Amarapura, Myanmar. It claims to be the world’s longest teak footbridge and at 1300yds long, I have no reason to doubt it. Myanmar, or Burma, is a country of gold wherever you look. #burma #myanmar #u-beinbridge #mandalay #southeastasia #teak #footbridge #river #lake #sunset #gold

‘Honesty’ apple stall at Priorwood Garden, Melrose. What a great selection of traditional and beautifully tasty British varieties at £1.50 a bag. Now that’s what I call a bargain. #apples #traditionalapples #orchards #priorwoodgardens #melrose #scottishborders

A small flock of Galahs rest in a roadside bush in Cape Range National Park, Western Australia. These stunning birds can be seen in large flocks and are easy to approach. The contrast of the bright pink head and neck against a dove grey body is pure magic #galah #galahs #cockatoos #cockatoosofinstagram #australia #caperangenationalpark #westernaustralia #desert #birds

Home grown runner beans and carrots, freshly picked for tea tonight. Now that’s what I call ‘locally sourced’. 👍 #locallysourced #slowfood #healthyeating #carrots #runnerbeans #goodfood #organic

Visitors to our neighbours’ wedding this weekend were welcomed by a giant ‘Mr and Mrs’ (made from silage and straw bales) gazing towards the road coming from Strathaven. A great time was had by all. #wedding #silage #scotland #strathaven #southlanarkshire #farming

Just returned from a day trip with my son James to the stunning Isle of May in the Firth of Forth. Here, some 45,000 pairs of puffins breed each summer before returning to the sea where they spend the autumn and winter months. If you want to get up close to these ‘comical’ and much loved birds, book yourself onto the ‘May Princess’ which sails from Anstruther every day during the season. The Isle of May and the sea bird colonies that it supports are one of Scotland’s hidden jewels. #puffins #isleofmay #firthofforth #seabirds #rspb_love_nature #bto #Scotland #wildlifetrusts #scottishbirds #bbcwildlife #springwatch #eye_spy_birds

A doe Roe deer looks back at me before turning and disappearing into the bracken. They are the most widely distributed of British deer and a truly native species. Their fawns are born in early summer and twins are very common #roedeer #deer #britishdeer #doe #fawn #summer #spring #britishwildlife #wildlifephotographer #wildlifeplanet #wildlifeonearth #wildlifeaddicts #wildlife_seekers #planetearth #earthcapture #animals #wildanimals #scottishwildlife #scottishwildlifetrust #visitscotland #scottishnaturalheritage #scotland #wildscotland #i.sea.conservation #britishmammals #mammalsociety

A Highland bull on the west coast of Scotland gives me a casual stare. They are a slow growing breed producing the finest tasting beef from poor quality native grasses. One of the most efficient methods of food production from infertile land not capable of being cropped. #highlandcattle #scottishhighlands #westcoast #gorse #scotland #visitscotland #mostbeautifulcountryintheworld #cattle #cows #livestock #beef #sucklers #hereford #farming #cattlerearing #britishfarming #scottishfarming #britishbeef #scottishbeef #organicfarm #organicfarming #freerangebeef #barbecue #horns #ginger #gingerhair #badhairday #food #foodproduction #efficientfoodproduction

I caught this little fella above ground earlier today, close to the rose hedge in my garden. Moles spend most of their life underground and you can see in this picture some of the evolutionary adaptations for such a lifestyle: huge, spade-like forelimbs for digging; vertically lying fur that assists moving forwards or backwards in their tunnels; tiny eyes because eyesight is not important below ground; and a long, flexible nose for detecting the movement of prey such as earthworms, in the dark. Moles are a nuisance to gardeners and farmers because of the molehills they create, and are frequently trapped and killed because of this. I took pity on this little chap and let him go in the hedge where he scurried for cover and was no doubt quickly underground. It’s not everyday that you get to have such a close encounter with nature. Something to relish and treasure. #mole #molehill #insectivore #spring #britishwildlife #wildlifephotographer #wildlifeplanet #wildlifeonearth #wildlifeaddicts #wildlife_seekers #planetearth #earthcapture #animals #wildanimals #scottishwildlife #scottishwildlifetrust #visitscotland #scottishnaturalheritage #scotland #wildscotland #i.sea.conservation #britishmammals #mammalsociety
