These two ladies were at the #structuringfashion conference and us modern corset makers have a great deal to thank them both for. On the left is Autumn Adamme, @missdarkgarden, founder and proprietress of Dark Garden Corsetry in San Fransisco. Autumn is THE trailblazer for modern corsetry, if it weren’t for her, many of us wouldn’t have a career - I call her ‘The Godmother of Modern Corsetry’ - we all know that mainstream fashion starts underground and modern corsetry used as outerwear had it's origins in the subcultures of the 80's and 90's goth scene - just about the only place in the world you could get a corset for a long time before the internet, was her shop - Dark Garden - others followed soon after, but Autumn was the first. On the right is Valerie Steele - author of “The Corset - A Cultural History” - a seminal book which is probably on every corset makers book shelf. Little did I know 10 years ago when I bought the book myself, that one day I would be in a position to talk business with her and that when I did, she would already know about my work. .
