Roasted beets, yellow & purple carrots , homemade guac 🥑.. all apps from our bbq last wkd. #plantbasedliving
Amazing plant based BBQ for my brother’s bday. ALL CREDIT goes to my superior talented mother. 🌱
My brother isn’t vegan but he’s been influenced to eat more plant based foods since I’ve went vegan. For the first time he went (almost) all plant based for his bday bbq, and the food was incredible!
My fav place to be in May is High Park when the Sakura trees are in full bloom. It was really busy and we had to walk reeeal slow to get to the trees but so worth it. These trees were donated to us back in 1959 from Japan and we have well over 2000 of them. #sakuraproject#bloom#cherrytrees
I love this city so much. We have amazing people, communities, opportunities, and diversity. There is a strong sense of pride and unity among us. It’s a clean, vibrant and exciting city. I am so protective of this place and proud that I was raised here. Wherever I am, this will forever be my home.
Trying to stay positive in this drab wet and cold weather in #Toronto. This past weekend we had to deal with icy roads, slush, hail, -12 temps. Some ppl were walking in light clothes and casual shoes to work this morning...🤔 perhaps pretending that this wasn’t really happening. Meanwhile I had my parka and big boots on. I was basically born and raised here so I knew not to pack my winter gear away. 🌧❄️💦💧🌬💨
Dinner is my fav meal of the day. I clearly load up my plate with a variety of plant based foods. 🥗🥔🍅🥒I love the taste of beets with mashed potatoes. I’m not sure if it’s a Hungarian thing but I’ve always ate it that way. #nomnom#carbup
Sometimes I like simple meals that requires minimal effort and time. The easiest thing to make is veggie tomato sauce with gf pasta. I used a bit of no sodium tomato sauce and sautéed vegetables (tomatoes, green onions, garlic, green peppers) that I had leftover in my fridge and added a mixture of spices (black pepper, curry powder, oregano, basil) and it took 10 mins to make. 3 mins to eat. #ieatsuperfast😌
Thinking about this tasty Indian dinner made with Thiru’s gourmet madras curry sauce (based out of Waterloo), chickpeas, rice and potatoes. I found this company when I went to the #greenliving show @mtcc_events. They offer a ton of vegan and gluten-free sauces and soups. I was very impressed with their taste! #local#authentic#familybased
For those of you who love candy and can’t seem to find candy without gelatin (🤢), I can recommend #Squishcandies. My fav is the vegan sour strawberry strips. 🍬🍭🍬🍭
Potato gnocchi with a side of asparagus. 🌱
🌱. There are particular vegetables and fruits that I wait until they’re in season to buy because the cost is cut in half, if not more. I find that avocados, asparagus, grapes and cherries are so much $$. I live in a city where it’s cold 6 months of the year. I spend a lot on groceries and so I have to factor in what fruits and vegs are in season. What fruit/veg costs you the most? What’s always available and cheap? 🍎🍌🍒🍉🍑🍇🍓🥝🥑🥦🥒🍅🥕🥔🍠
Chocolate almond gluten-free brownies. 🌱I started eating primarily gluten free foods about 2 years ago. I always felt like it was a new food trend to be GF (aside from having celiac) until I started realizing that it was the cause of my puffy skin and bloating stomach. I would drink so much water to flush out the swelling but anytime I ate a bowl of pasta or pizza my stomach would swell right up that I looked pregnant. First I started eliminating sodium because that was a HUGE factor for puffy face/ skin but my stomach would continue to double in size after eating gluten. So I started cutting back. I started buying GF pasta and bread, and making GF pizza dough and about a year later I started noticing a big difference. Also, it helps flush... yes.. flush. 🚽 Think gluten as glue. It’s the substance that creates the elastic sticky texture that holds the food together. When you eat that, you’re not going to get that royal flush.. 🙊It will stick inside you and it takes time for the body to break it down. I still eat it, in small amounts (I love Gardein chikn strips, gnocchi) but most of my dishes are made without it. Are you gluten intolerant?
Part II. Sweet potato hummus. 🍠🥒🌶🍠🥔🥒
Easter apps part 1. These tasted like deviled eggs without the 🥚🥚. Recipe by my amazing mother. 👌🏻👌🏻
It was a packed house this year. I only have my immediate family here in Canada (Toronto). Most of my relatives are in Hungary or Switzerland so usually our gatherings are pretty small but this year our table was completely full with people. I’m the only vegan in my family and so I have to be flexible with what is being shared at the table. Last night’s spread was truly incredible as there were so many flavourful dishes. We had vegetarian, gluten free, vegan options for dinner and dessert. It was all homemade and I’m so appreciative of all the hard work that went into it, esp trying to please everyone!
We did our first tasting at the Vegan Danish Bakery in Thornhill. We heard so many positive reviews and they did not disappoint. My fav was their raspberry danish. I haven’t had one in years and it’s all made with plant based ingredients. There are cute little seated areas with classical music playing in the background.. It was a very sweet atmosphere. #supportlocalbakers
