Remember when watermelon had seeds that we could spit at each other? Kids are missing out! Do you know how to pick the perfect watermelon? . If you get one at a farmers market, they are the best! If not, pick one that is heavy with a nice yellow spot on the side where it was sitting on the ground because that's how you know it's ripe. A ripe one will have a deep hollow sound when you tap it. . Watermelon is great in recipes. Add it to salads or look for my shrimp and watermelon ceviche recipe coming up!

Mango-orange-basil Agua Fresca . This blend of fruit with water and fresh lime juice is super refreshing and thirst quenching. . 2 cups fresh mango 1 cup fresh orange juice 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice 2/3 cup water 4 torn fresh basil leaves . Combine fruit, juice, and water in a blender. Stir in basil and let sit in fridge for 2 hours. A month ago I read a fellow culinary nutritionist’s post about sugar being added to wines. She also wrote about other additives like Mega Purple and synthetic pesticides that I never knew were being added to wines. I did my own research and found that even the organic wine that I was buying has little regulation on it and I really don’t know what I am getting. Even the sulfite free wine may contain other added chemicals. . Wine has been around a long time, so why are these things being added now? . The theory is that our society is addicted to sugar. This shouldn't come as a surprise. The sweeter something is, the more we consume of it. The wine makers wanted to buy into this trend to...although they don't have to disclose it. . Check your wine bottle...you won't find a nutrition label there. . She led me to Scout and Cellar. I ordered 3 bottles of reds that my husband and I tried. They were wonderful and he didn’t get any headaches. I read about the company, and how it selects wine to be sold only if they follow a set of guidelines: . 1. No sugar added 2. No sulfites added 3. Found these gluten-free shells at Home Goods, so I tried a vegan ricotta made with cashew cream and nutritional yeast. I added a little garlic and lemon juice to make it tangy. Yum!! Topped with a sun dried tomato sauce. This came out amazing!!
