Today I attended a private screening of Blackkklansman and met one of my biggest film inspirations. I remember as a kid watching Crooklyn, Do the Right Thing, School Daze and saying to myself “I want to make films like that”. I want to make films that say something. Films that shed light on social issues and help bring about change. It was an honor listening to Spike Lee speak about the power of film and what’s to come.
For such a very long time I wanted to be like him, but now more than ever I know I get to keep that inspiration and build upon it...I get to be me. I get to cultivate my voice. I give glory to God for guiding my footsteps. The journey is just beginning.
I give glory to God for guiding my footsteps and building my career. The magic of LA is it is filled with once in a lifetime opportunities. Tonight was a wonderful night. I had a chance to talk with Academy Award winning Director Barry Jenkins. I met him a few years prior before his big win. It’s great to see our paths cross again. His film If Beale Street Could Talk is one you do not want to miss!
