Though more commonly known for being the birthplace of Starbucks, Seattle is also the origin of the American teriyaki shop—a staple institution as inextricably linked to the city as the Space Needle and Pike Place Market. After moving to New York City, Seattle native Paul Krug realized that the rest of the country lacked anything comparable to the simple, satisfying, and affordable meal served by the teriyaki shops of his childhood.
