This International Woman’s day we’re having a chat with photographer, athlete, coffee fan, and all-round inspiring woman @alishalovrich Below is an edited highlight, you can read the full interview on the Harpoon’s Facebook. All photos taken by Alisha.
Q: How did you become the team photographer for NZ Pole Vault and Athletics NZ?
A: I am an athlete myself, I was a 400m/800m runner, and in the beginning of 2013 I injured my back so was unable to compete at the major events. The biggest domestic event is Nationals and it was in Auckland that year, so I just bought my camera to the track to take photos of my friends and chucked them on Facebook. Athletics New Zealand noticed these and kept an eye on me. But it wasn't until I graduated I got more involved with working with Athletics New Zealand.
Q: You’ve captured so many amazing sporting moments is there any that particularly stand out?
A: One stand out for me, Usain Bolt's final run at the London 2017 World Athletics Championships. The atmosphere was unreal, what Bolt has done for our sport is incredible and you can see the amount of respect the athletics world has for him.
Q: What’s coming up for you in 2018?
A: On March 18th is the SKYCITY Vertical Pursuit Pole Vault meet which is in Federal Street in Auckland, right under the Sky Tower! Q: And finally how do you take your coffee?
A: Cappuccino, Chocolate on top. However when I pole vault I drink cold brew. I always have a bottle of Harpoon Cold Brew Concentrate in my training bag so I can just make it up before a session.
