sitting on the coast of norway for hours while waiting for the northern lights is about the only time feeling anticipation can be tolerable. eyes glued to the north looking for a faint glow of green that slowly turns into an epic show of dancing colors equals everything that is great about travel. the effort to get somewhere, present in something foreign, mixed with something beautiful are my biggest motivating factors to get out and see something new...

the back country of capitol reef national park has some awesome sights and camping. this is temple of the sun - during sunset the west face starts to glow creating an awesome visual.

midday at tre cime di lavaredo, northern italy... this place was the front line between italy and austria during WWI. if you ever find yourself hiking the area, be sure to explore some of the bunkers and tunnels that are scattered through the local mountains. also, the town of, cortina which is a few km down the road, is incredibly charming and fun, and a can’t miss visit.

one of the best things about norway in january is the consistently good light due to the sun barely breaking the horizon. this shot was taken around midday...

above is a video of the northern lights in real time from my visit to norway. one of my goals during the trip was to capture the lights on video because a still photo doesn’t do it justice. i’m thankful to have captured a few moments, and excited to share what i believe is nature’s most beautiful phenomenon. the equipment used was sony’s a7sii and zeiss lens 35mm 1.4. the settings were 1/50, f1.4, and iso ranging from 10k to 30k. the song is, “ditchdigger” by tyler lyle. @sonyalpha @tylerlyle
