I've had an influx of followers (hi and thanks!) over the last week so I thought I'd introduce myself here on IG. . I like to make things and am always looking to try new things. As a knitter (I started out with crocheting but totally fell in love with knitting), a woodworker, a dabbler and a tinkerer, I’m always game to developing my skills to advance my knowledge in a variety of creative outlets. A jack of all trades, and perhaps a master of some? Maybe one day. . I like to run long distances, lift heavy weights, and have a love of the outdoors. Canoeing, camping, hiking… I love it all. And doing it with my family is even better! Speaking of which, my family is everything to me -- I have an amazing partner in my husband and together, we have two great kids and a standard poodle, Finley (she counts as a third kid!). . Professionally, I'm a licensed naturopathic doctor in my 11th year of practice with an undergraduate degree in kinesiology. Nothing crazy about my practice principles, just a well-balanced approach to health in looking at the underlying causes of illness while making sure the fundamentals of diet, activity, sleep, and stress management are covered. . Photography is my passion. I used to shoot weddings and portraits professionally, but now it’s a well-nurtured part of who I am that allows me to share glimpses of my life through my photos. . There’s probably so much more I’ve forgotten to mention but you probably get the gist of it! Happy Thursday! . . . #photography #lifestylephotography #introduction #knitter #woodworker #nevernotmaking #fitmom #health #naturopath #naturopathicdoctor #activelife #fitness

Swatching for a big knit project and playing with possible variations in the design. I think I'm going to stick with the stripes and keep it true to the original pattern. . And holy smokes, I can't get enough of this green. @minevillewoolproject, you totally hit it out of the park with this dye lot! 😍 . . . #swatching #knitting #knitstagram #chiaogoo #continentalknitting #minevillewoolproject

Can I describe yarn as scrumptious? Because that's what this is. @minevillewoolproject newest dye lot for their merino DK is, well, scrumptious. Picked these beauties up at @artisanthropy Whitby and I'm swatching for a new project now. . . . #knitstagram #yarn #merino #minevillewoolproject #colours

Love these colours. Didn't think I'd wear them together like this. I think I need to branch out a bit more! 😆 . The pattern isn't out yet but it's another great one by Jenny Faifel (@sweaterfreakknits) -- keep an eye out for Knitcation's release later this month. . . . #knitting #knittersofinstagram #knittersofig #knitstagram #testknit #sweaterfreakknits #knittoque #knitwear #knitherapy #sugarbushyarns #knitallthethings #nevernotknitting #strandedknitting #colorworkknitting #fairisleknitting

I wasn't sure how these colours would work together but I'm digging them hard. Plus, it didn't hurt that the @sugarbushyarns was a squishy dream to knit with! . This test knit for @sweaterfreakknits was a nice toe-dipper into the world of three-colour stranded knitting. I'll definitely have to continue looking for more patterns that incorporate more than two colours now! . . . #knitting #testknit #sweaterfreakknits #knittersofig #knittersofinstagram #knitstagram #knitwear #knittoque #knithat #knitherapy #continentalknitting #chiaogoo #interchangeables #nevernotknitting #sugarbushyarns

I finally got my butt in gear and started getting through some of my unfinished projects in my workshop -- one of which I’m currently working on (and almost near completion) is the router extension table that fits on the rails of the table saw. . This project was started last August but it went unfinished for so long because I was overwhelmed. Overwhelmed with the number of steps, with the tool skills I felt I was lacking, and with the numerous other projects I had on the go. A more experienced woodworker would have known exactly what to do and how to move on to the next step -- I, on the other hand, froze. . I decided to get back into the workshop and pick this project up again. Perhaps it was momentum from the latest workbench build that was completed in record time over the Christmas break. It also could have been that the daily dose of guilt from seeing it unfinished finally became too much. Or, the ultimatum I gave myself that I couldn’t start another woodworking project until I cleared the docket of my current ones (I want to start on a REALLY amazing project). . Whatever the reason may have been, it definitely got me motivated to finish this table. My learning curve as a woodworker has been a challenging one because I’ve had to learn a lot of techniques and skills with tools on my own and through online videos (YouTube and I, we’re besties). There’s still so much more to learn but I’m starting to get comfortable with my own skills to tackle more complicated projects. . The biggest thing I need to do with any project or plan is take a deep breath, break things down into smaller incremental steps, and acknowledge that each small step (no matter how small) takes me that much closer to completion. This applies, not only to woodworking, but also to my knitting and life at large. . If you read through all of that, thanks for reading my thoughts and following along with me on this eye-opening process. And for all of you knitters out there, isn’t it fantastic that the patterns we follow create clothing that keeps us warm in any condition, including in the workshop? My Lopi sweater by @sweaterfreakknits has been a staple layer as I work in colder conditions. 😍

One sweater down, two to go (for my family, that is). A wee Flax finished in time for Little L's first birthday. I love the coloring in the yarn (@manosdeluruguayyarns Alegria) -- reminds me of all the colours of sorbet 🍨. . . . #flaxsweater #tincanknits #manosdeluruguayalegria #knittersofig #knitting #knittersofinstagram #knitstagram #knitsweater #sweaterweather #nevernotknitting #continentalknitting #knitherapy #wearableknits

Test fit of the frame for the router extension table. It fits! 😅 Something, something, measure twice, cut once. . . . #woodworking #woodworkingmom #routertable #tools #diy #nevernotmaking

Working on version two of @sweaterfreakknits new test pattern Knitcation. It's a great knit with a design that flies off the needles. . This one is version two (trying out colour combos that are not typical of my usual colour choices). I'll post both versions I've this one's done (V1 is a bit more me, but I wasn't entirely happy with the color combo). . What do you think of the colours so far? . I can't tell if it quite works but that might be because the blue is not one I'd typically use to knit with (this test knit was a stash busting one and I had the blue kicking around pleading to be used up). . . . #knitting #knittersofig #knittersofinstagram #testknit #sweaterfreakknits #fairisleknitting #strandedknitting #knittoque #continentalknitting #chiaogoo #interchangeables #nevernotknitting #sugarbushyarns

One large pot of leftover turkey carcass stock coming right up. Once it's done, I usually freeze it in bagged portions to use whenever recipes call for chicken stock and make a delicious jook [죽] (Korean congee) with the bits of turkey that falls off the bone. . . . #cooking #foodprep #foodphotography #turkeystock #fromfresh #turkey #jook #죽 #koreanfood #koreancooking #congee

Unfinished projects from 2018. I had grand aspirations (or delusions! 🤣) of finishing sweaters for my family. Yeeeahhh, didn't quite happen 🤨 but I'm picking them back up to finish before January ends. . I'm not a fan of leaving WIP on the needles for too long. Too many factors can change over time (slight changes in gauge, forgetting where I left off in the pattern, etc.). I especially wanted to get the yoke and sleeve separation done for this (this one is for the little guy) because I reworked the original pattern (Dog Star Sweater by @tincanknits) to knit top-down. An interesting process but learned a lot from re-working it. . . . #knitting #knittersofig #knittersofinstagram #knitstagram #knitwear #knitsweater #dogstarsweater #tincanknits #knitherapy #continentalknitting #chiaogoo #interchangeables #nevernotknitting

New workbench build, plans courtesy of @finewoodworkingmagazine. This is a sturdy workbench that's a pretty quick build (yes, I was building a workbench this last week with my husband). . Why were we building a workbench over Christmas, you ask? Because of the drill press that was under our Christmas tree for me (who else put a drill press on their Christmas wish list?! 🙋). I have an awesome husband 😍🤩. More on the drill press later! . . . #woodworking #woodworkingmom #workbenchbuild #finewoodworkingplans #diy #wood #drillpress #workshop #nevernotmaking

I love making my own sweaters and cardis -- in fact, I think 2019 is going to be a cardigan/sweater year (if my Rav queue is any evidence of that). Of course there will be other projects on the go (not all knitting!) but this is my knitting for me #topninefor2019 list: . Sourcebook Chunky Cardigan (@norahgn) River Springs (@sweaterfreakknits) Humulus (@lilalu72) Zweig (@boylandknitworks) Soyokaze (@handknitlife) Longline Cardigan (@jojilocat) Naima (@ankestrick) Vesica Pisces (@sweaterfreakknits) Santa Fe (@lilalu72) . Of course there will be other test knits and kid-knits and husband-knits (and possible even poodle-knits) along the way. Let's see if I can get through half of this list in 2019! . . . #knitting #knittersofig #knittersofinstagram #knitstagram #knitwear #knitherapy #continentalknitting #chiaogoo #interchangeables #nevernotknitting #topnine #knitinspiration

One spatchcocked turkey for Christmas lunch. 90 minutes from oven to table, with stuffing underneath -- this roasting method from @seriouseats is no joke (Thanks @kenjilopezalt!). The breasts and thighs hit their respective temps at the same time and no fussing with oven temp changes or covering/uncovering with foil. . 11lb turkey, 450F, uncovered for 90 minutes - done like... lunch. . Oh, and with the 48 hour dry brine, crispy skin all around with super moist white and dark meat. . . . #seriouseats #spatchcockedturkey #Christmasturkey #easyturkey #Christmaslunch #stuffing #gravy #foodprep #foodphotography #food #omnomnom #turkey #drybrine
