The last week or two I’ve had a slight niggle in my left shoulder due to having a very tight pectoral minor. After having a sports massage and taking a good few days off training I’m back I’m back training. With lots of warm up sets just using the bar and also using some resistance bands to stretch I’m finally benching with no pain. This is the first time I’ve been able to bench even 55kg for reps in a while, so time to slowly work on strengthening that pec. Fancy trying something new for legs? Why not try the Zercher Squat Zercher squat is similar to a front squat by hitting those quads. Instead of having the bar resting on top of the front delts,hold the bar in the bend of your arms and then continue like you would do a normal back squat. No matter how long you’ve being going to the gym there is always one exercise you struggle with. Mines is tricep dips. Give me a bench I can do dips for days but as soon as use a dip bar I’m useless. There is always an adaption you can do to an exercise to make it slightly easier. Here I decided to use a power band which gives me a helping hand getting back up from the lower stage of a dip. As time goes on I will use less and less resistance till eventually I can do dips without assistance. Stretch/Mobility Last few weeks I’ve been playing a lot of football so my hamstrings are starting to feel pretty tight. 15/20 minutes of me doing some foam rolling and some stretches makes a lot of difference. As you can see from the photo my flexibility improves and I feel a lot less tight. Student Vs Teacher Been working on some fast feet drills with @chrismackayreid as he plays for the Highland Wildcats and need to keep his agility on point. Sadly he couldn’t beat me this time 😜but has gone onto my monthly plan so will see if he can’t smash me in a months time. Today’s session in tailed some plyometric exercise and also some strength and conditioning. Workouts don’t always need to be in the gym nor do they need to contain lifting weights all the time. Enjoyment is the key, if you don’t enjoy yourself what is the point! Now you wouldn’t think going to a trampoline park was a workout but man alive I don’t think I’ve sweated that much in my life. Also adding in a bit of “friendly competition” to see who could get the most backflips in. To most of us getting up and down the stairs is easy and most the time we don’t think about the way we do it! Some of us however struggle. By working on balance and some leg work in the gym we finally hit the stairs head on a couple weeks back. While climbing the stairs Matthew use to swing his right leg outwards and lift from the hip instead of bending the knee as this was a much easier way for him to do it. As you can see from the video we have stopped the swinging and concentrated on taking our time and bending the knee. Matthew found it a lot harder coming down the stairs as it uses much more balance but working on balance has made him a lot more confident and we are so very close to cracking that as well. Training with an injury? This doesn’t mean stop going to the gym and start feeling sorry for yourself, it mean just train smart. Don’t do really heavy weights and overload the area but just take your time use light weights or even just body weight until it feels ready to progress onto a harder weight. Rest if very important for an injury as well as giving time to let your body help heal the injury you have. Making sure you are having plenty foods with protein in to help rebuild/repair the injury. Before doing some exercise with Jillian we took a lot longer then normal doing some light warm up stretches for her knee as this is where the injury is. Once we had done that we moved onto doing Body weighted exercises which would help strengthen the knee itself. In the session we worked only on a handful of exercises and sticking with the basics. 🔸Seated to standing on one leg 🔸One leg squat 🔸Leg Extension (not recorded) Swimming would also be a great option for Jillian to do as well as he leg would be working against a resistance. #instafit #instafitness #injury #injuryrecovery #pt #personalfitness #personaltrainer #injuryrehab #protein #instagym #instastudio #instagram
