Is it just me or does anyone else feel like they want to face plant to the bottom of a cookie skillet after this week? 🙋🏼‍♀️ - I’ve been known to polish off a bag of chips (or two) after a stressful day in my time. Or to eat a whole box of cookies after a long day. It happens. It’s definitely not something to beat yourself up over. We all have those days where the “healthy” plans be dammed, I’m eating a cookie. The trick is to be mindful of why your making that choice. Food freedom is the freedom to make those choices without feeling a need for consequence or punishment. It’s being able to enjoy whatever a “treat” is to you without guilt. But it’s also important to notice when you’re eating your emotions instead of feeling them. When you get in an argument with your significant other, the issue will still be there even though the cookies are not. Make the choices that feel right to you, but make sure to take a step back and see if that’s what your body needs in that moment. - This has been a pretty long, stressful week and even though I’d love to go swimming in a cookie skillet - I’ll save that for another time. Hi there 👋 I’ve noticed a few new faces around town, and I’d thought I’d share a little bit about my story so you get to know the person behind the account 💁🏼‍♀️ - 1. I started having severe panic attacks a few months after I graduated high school. I also dealt with severe hormonal issues too. After many years on anti anxiety meds and hormonal birth control and MANY doctors, I finally found the root cause of PCOS and an autoimmune issue. I started eating paleo a few years ago and I wouldn’t change a thing, I see it as an opportunity to try new foods I never would have before. 2. My diet used to consist of Dr. Pepper and Cinnamon Toast Crunch (not necessarily in that order). At this stage in life it’s turned into matcha and @urbanplates And I ain’t even mad at it. 3. I’m a complete introvert. It takes me awhile to get comfortable around someone before I open up. I may not have many friends, but I know I’ve got a tight small group of true friends that I feel 100% free to be myself around. 4. I didn’t go on an airplane for the first time until 2016. Before that the farthest I had been was Utah. This was a huge hurdle for me and my anxiety, but getting over the fear has opened so many new places to me (and opened a discussion about a possible London trip in the future 🤭). It makes me so happy that the anxiety isn’t holding me back. 5. I love learning new things. I work in marketing, so there’s always something new to learn. I also love photography and graphic design (both subjects I HATED in college). 6. I started this account in hopes that I could share my wellness story and journey to inspire others who may feel stuck in their struggles. It’s starting to slightly feel like a different season outside rather than just hot, so I wanted to kick off the day with a cozy bowl of spaghetti squash oatmeal with all the goods. What’s your go to oat toppings? I love some cinnamon roasted apples, but I would pour almond butter all over everything if I could. - If you can’t digest regular oats, this is a great alternative and also a good way to sneak in some veggies without really tasting it. I added in some @vitalproteins marine collagen for some extra protein and because that fall weather I was so excited about is also wreaking havoc on my skin 😑 - Here’s what I used: 1. 1 1/2 cups cooked spaghetti squash 2. 1/4 cup @bobsredmill coconut flour 3. 1 scoop @vitalproteins marine collagen 4. Have you ever taken time out during the day to really “sit” with your thoughts? As someone who deals with panic disorder, that is literally the last thing I want to do. I heard a staggering statistic this morning, that we have anywhere between 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day, and up to 80% of those thoughts are negative. What’s even crazier is more than 95% of those thoughts are the same as the day before 🤭 - Our thoughts only have as much power as we give them. Easier said than done right? One way to take your power back is to really sit with your thoughts. When I’m feeling anxious I try and keep track of what was going through my head before it started. Am I beating myself up over past mistakes? Instead of trying to run from the thoughts or change them, I try to accept them. I try to sit with them to see what they are really trying to say. Most of the time a negative thought is trying to show you a bigger picture, but more often than not we become stuck ruminating on a thought. - While many of us are getting ready for the new week ahead, really take some time to sit with your thoughts, and listen. See what you can leave behind. See what you can change to move forward. Learn to sit with being uncomfortable. You know that one go to meal that always leaves you wanting seconds? That’s what cobb salads are for me 🥙 A massive bowl of @organicgirl spring mix topped with roasted chicken breast, @applegate turkey bacon, chopped red onion, grape tomatoes and avocado with @primalkitchenfoods Ranch dressing. I leave off the egg (I know 😱) because I don’t digest eggs very well, but you can most definitely add egg in if you can tolerate them! Do you have a morning routine? Mine usually consists of me running around frantically looking for my left shoe, or trying to finish my makeup in the car. Sound like your mornings too? - It hadn’t really clicked until recently that your morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Have you noticed when you start out the day in gridlock (us Californians love our traffic!) how that feeling of anger carries on throughout the day when even the smallest mishap can set you off? The way you start the morning has all the power in the world to help shape your day. - While I may in no means be perfect at morning routines, the one non negotiable that I do include in my morning is making time for breakfast and a matcha. Why are these things so important to me? Well I’m not me when I’m hangry, and if I want to start out the day on a positive note, I need breakfast. And the matcha? It forces me to slow down and enjoy the process of making it. And I just really like it. What’s one thing you can do today to start your day off on the right note? Tuna was one of my least favorite foods growing up, and as an adult has slowly turned in to one of my favorite go to lunch staples 🤣🤷‍♀️ What’s one food you couldn’t stand when you were younger that you can’t live without now? - I dig tuna because it’s a quick portable source of protein and it doesn’t require a microwave to reheat (those who share a microwave at work ya feel me?) There’s nothing a little yogurt and a whole lot of almond butter can’t fix an I right? 🤷‍♀️ - Tbh I’ve been in a legit funk lately. I feel overwhelmed by trying to make so many people happy, while neglecting doing the things that make me happy. I think this tends to happen around the holidays, but I’m glad that I am being mindful of it now before it starts wearing me down. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to make everyone happy, but not at the expense of your own sanity and wellbeing. So I decided to make myself a stacked yogurt bowl. Normally my yogurt bowls aren’t this loaded, but you know... Let’s talk about insecurities. We’ve all faced them every now and then, I face them all the time. Just yesterday trying on bridesmaids dresses the first thing I noticed was my belly poking out of the dress. Why do we do this to ourselves? - Our insecurities stem from what we think. When we believe that the perfect picture of health is washboard abs and flawless skin, we create these insecurities. The words we speak to ourselves hold so much power not only in physical features but in who you are as well. Do you call yourself names if you make a mistake? There’s no magical pill to make this any easier, but paying attention to the words you say to yourself is a good place to start. - Start each day with gratitude about yourself. Don’t you hate it when your over there meal prepping and all of a sudden you have a tray of chocolate cookies for the week but no actual food prepped 🤷‍♀️ just me? I’m not much for food prepping, but I do put some small things together for when I go into work during the week that doesn’t need to be placed in the microwave. Im not a fan of reheating meals in the microwave. So these cookies therefore make the perfect meal prep for the week right? - Here’s what I used for the cookies: 1️⃣ 3/4 cup almond butter 2️⃣ 1/4 cup @traderjoes blanched almond flour 3️⃣ 1/4 cup @traderjoes cacao powder 4️⃣ 1/2 cup @primalpastures wildflower honey 5️⃣ 1/4 cup melted then cooled coconut oil 6️⃣ 2 eggs 7️⃣ 1/4 tsp baking soda 8️⃣ 1/4 tsp Cinnamon 9️⃣ 1/4 tsp sea salt 🔟 1 tsp vanilla extract Pre heat the oven to 350. Line a baking pan with parchment paper. In a large bowl, mix together the nut butter, honey, vanilla and coconut oil and mix. Add in the eggs and continue mixing. In a separate bowl, combine all the dry ingredients. Slowly mix the dry ingredients together into the wet mixture until fully combined. Use a large spoon to drop a tablespoon of mix onto the parchment paper (these rise a lot!) Bake for 10 minutes, then let cool for 20 minutes and enjoy! “Happiness can exist only in acceptance.” - George Orwell - Happy November! 🍂 I mean I honestly feel like I blinked and this year went by like that. Anyways, I read a November horoscope this morning and it got me thinking about what my intentions are for the month. - My key focus for the month of November is acceptance and gratitude. I know for me, I have a hard time accepting things as they are sometimes. I want so badly for things to be different that I get stuck in this endless loop of worry about the future. I cause a lot of my own anxiety by wishing for something I think I need. So I’m going to focus more on acceptance, and that starts with true, authentic gratitude. The type of mindful gratitude that extends from seeing the good in every situation, and either seeing the blessing or the lesson. - How do I plan on doing that when I’ve been living in my own personal pity party for so long? I’m going to start by making sure to spend time with my @fiveminutejournal each morning in November. And focusing only on what I am truly grateful for. For example, if I say I’m thankful for my house, why am I thankful. What about my home am I thankful for? (#ad) How many of you have tried watercress before? 🙋🏼‍♀️ I hadn’t tried them until today with some lemon pepper chicken drumsticks, so don’t let people tell you that eating healthy limits what you eat cause I’m trying ALL sorts of new things 🤗 Im learning all sorts of new things too, like this little nutritional powerhouse is loaded with vitamins like A, K and C, and is ranked higher than kale on the nutrient scale. It can also help support the thyroid as well. When they say get your nutrients from food before supplements, I’d include these guys for sure. - I’ve been using @peteslivinggreens other products for awhile now, and I’m so in love with how their lettuce is grown with a hydroponic water system and sustainable growing practices that allows them to use 85% less water than conventional growers. Everything stays fresh longer because you buy the goods with the roots still attached. What’s the perfect cure for the common cold? Why more pumpkin of course 🎃 in all honesty I’ve been getting lots of rest and bone broth, but in between I made a little time for some zen in the kitchen with some mini pumpkin muffins with coconut whipped cream and pecans 😋 I used @simplemills pumpkin bread mix for the muffins, and for the coconut cream I put a can of full fat coconut milk in the fridge overnight, then removed the cream at the top and placed it on the mini muffins.
