🏋🏼♂️Post workout skincare🏋🏼♂️
For years I was so self conscious about my skincare in the men’s locker room. Were the other guys gonna realise I was gay, did they think I was effeminate/weird if I brought a face wash in the shower, or God forbid used a serum?! 🧚🏼♂️ Even using a moisturiser sometimes felt like an overstep. Why not use body lotion, the face is a part of the body, right? Luckily those days are over and I’ve learned to embrace who I am and my skincare addiction. And frankly I don’t give a damn what anyone in the locker room (or outside it for that part) thinks! 🏳️🌈 Some things are different though from showering at home that you need to take into consideration. .
1. Time. I don’t have the time or patience to apply one serum, wait the appropriate amount of time, apply next one, wait, and so on. I go for one active serum of the day, might be niacinamide or vitamin C. And nothing that requires too much time before the next step ⏰
2. Post workout sweating. I usually perspire quite excessively when working out. And afterwards. Which is another reason I can’t layer too much skincare or wear a too heavy moisturiser. This can be tricky during winter when the air is dry but you don’t want a too heavy moisturiser💦
3. Space. You can’t bring the entire bathroom cabinet in your bag, at least I can’t. So focus on the important stuff. And get travel sizes of your products if you can. That’s true especially for your cleanser that normally comes in quite a large size. Travel sizes are also a great way to try new products to see if you like them or not 🛒
4. Time of the day. Working out might not coincide with your regular skincare routine; I adopt my post workout routine according to time of the day. If I work out in the morning I don’t shower or cleanse at home. I incorporate almost all of my regular steps after workout instead, cleansing, toner, essence, serum, moisturiser and SPF. If I work out in the late afternoon I usually just cleanse and moisturise since I know I’ll be doing a full routine back home in a couple of hours. No need to waste time or especially expensive products if you’re gonna wash it all off soon anyway 🛀🏼
