Coastal hikes are photogenic hikes! Today’s tips are for packing for active holidays: Use a backpack as your carry on, which is just large enough to use as a day-hiking-pack and have a few smaller bags inside for use as beach bags and handbags. Cloth bags roll up to save space but also take a more secure bag as a small handbag to ensure your passport, wallet and phone stay safe. You can have this small, secure bag over your shoulder during flights (so include a pen to fill out departure/arrival cards) or to use when going out at night and jumping on and off public transport. Also, pack clothing that will be comfortable for outdoors activities but is easy to wear as a city outfit when you add a few lightweight accessories. For toiletries, remember you can buy shampoo, insect repellent and sun cream when you arrive. Liquids are heavy
and can spill, ruining your clothes. Just be aware that countries such as China will add bleach to most skin products, so take your own travel-sized bottles in a zip-lock bag if that is your destination!
