curious what your set up is for separating certain birds to breed? and how long do you house them together?

@radicurls We have these Quonset huts that we build. I think theyโ€™re 12โ€™ x 5โ€™. They hold around 5-8 birds well and then the huts are moved about once a week. This one is holding a group of grow outs that are about 3 months old. I usually collect eggs for a week to make sure the hens are no longer fertile for other roosters and then I leave them together for however long I takes to get the amount of eggs I need. The huts are made with 2 x 12s on the bottom and then cattle pens over the top to make the rounded top. Then just add a door and roosts and whatever else you want really. Just found the idea on Pinterest. I can send you better pics if youโ€™d like!

@kristinegoesfarming Thank you! Sounds pretty simple! How many of those huts do you have? seems like good structures to have for broodys and their eggs/chicks, or hurt birds to separate them. i have a hurt bird in my living room in a tote right now ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„ not ideal!

@radicurls 2 right now and we plan on building some that are a little smaller for pairs or bantams. They really are handy. We just got more supplies last week so whenever we have time weโ€™re going to build more

@radicurls Yeah, I canโ€™t imagine a chicken in the House is too fun. I had a baby goose that hatched with bad legs around New Years that had to be in the house for a while and there was so much poop. So much poop ๐Ÿ˜‚

@kristinegoesfarming I know! and for some reason the poop smells way worse in these close quarters too ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ท
