A contemporary, wrap-around extension was created for this typical Victorian property, using interlocking glass and zinc forms. A nine-metre long roof-light over the rear elevation forms an oriel window seat overlooking the garden. By @darrenoldfieldarchitects Dark exteriors were a big trend among the 2018 #DontMoveImprove projects, find 120 inspirational projects like this in the free download of the magazine! Centre Point, a landmark and one of the first skyscrapers in London. When every other plan at the time was to knock it down, Centre Point was @almacantarldn’s first scheme. At an NLA talk in April they commented ‘We wanted our first project to be one that everyone thought was impossible to do’ pointing to Crossrail’s arrival as one of the scheme’s main catalysts. Join us at an upcoming talk or conference soon! Check out 'what's on' on our website 📷 by @lukehayes_uk Architects @conranandpartners #rickmatherarchitects

This flat gains a second bedroom and an open living area with a vaulted oak roof in this Victorian terrace extension. A #DontMoveImprove featured project by @greygriffithsarchitects An asymmetric design picks up on the existing form of the rear of the building, reflecting the location of the closet return. A long east-facing rooflight had been inserted within an exposed oak roof structure – adding a warm, repetitive interest to the space and drawing the eye up to the internal ridgeline, enhancing the feeling of space. This dramatic staircase lets light and air through a compact space using perforated timber treads and risers. @tsuruta_architects On double height, @catesthill writes in her #DontMoveImprove piece: Space standards can be stretched and manipulated by looking up, instead of opening out or across, to give an illusion of light and openness. Glass balconies and semi-transparent partitions can provide links and views across and above, while dramatic double-height voids give a sense of volume and generosity to small spaces. ... read more in the #DontMoveImprove magazine, free to download when you subscribe to our mailing list! This green roof belongs to Wood House in Southwark. A subtle extension of a 1950’s home, this project cantilevers the first floor at the side of the house and extends the ground floor to create generous family space. The green roof blends into the view of the garden from the upper floors. #DontMoveImprove @rda_architects Photo by #TimSoar Don't Move, Improve!
