Life in captivity is no life at all. #FreedomFriday #EmptyTheTanks #Blackfish

🐠 Thank you to everyone out there who signed the global petition to #ProtectWestPapua ✊🏽🇮🇩💙 Your support has been invaluable in the drive to secure a sustainable future one of the planet’s last great gems. The Perdasus – the proposed law that will ensure sustainable industries, establish crucial protected areas, and guarantee that Papua’s indigenous peoples have access to their own resources – has been approved by the West Papuan Parliament and the Governor. The @sealegacy @bluespherefoundation petition was presented to parliament during discussions, and it did exactly what we hoped it would do – demonstrate to the parliament that the world is watching. The Perdasus has now been passed on to the Majelis Rakyat Papua (MRP) – the top level of Papuan traditional, or Adat, government. It is currently under review by this council, and our partners within @conservationid believe that it will be adopted by the end of the year. This is the last step in passing the law! We will keep you updated as we know more. Thank you again to all of you for your support. Your voices have made a difference! It's been 3 years since @racingextinction broadcasted in homes and communities around the world. Thank you to all who have seen the film and came together in the race to protect species! 🌏 🙌 #RacingExtinction @discovery @vulcanproduction

We are celebrating #FanArtFriday by sharing this powerful piece from @lastmaps. Make sure to tag us in your #ARTivism for a chance to be featured! 🎨 ・・・ I read earlier this week that scientists reckon plastic is responsible for killing 1.1 million sea birds and animals each year - that being a reserved estimate 🦈 that’s over 3000 a day 🤯 minimum. Let’s be honest I bet it’s a whole lot more. If that isn’t enough to get you fired up I don’t know what is! This sketch goes out to those 3000 a day with a promise to do more. The scary thing is I drew it with pens made from the stuff. It’s not all doom and gloom - plastic is already illegal in some countries and we seem to be making steps - however small. I think I’m going to try and do a plastic free month. Any of you guys tried it? If so share your experience 👇

🐬💙 "No aquarium, no tank in a marine land, however spacious it may be, can begin to duplicate the conditions of the sea. And no dolphin who inhabits one of those aquariums or one of those marine lands can be considered normal." - Jacques Cousteau #EmptyTheTanks

We are the Oceanic Preservation Society, OPS for short, a kind of double entendre because one thing we do is undercover work; we exposed #TheCove, helped bust The Hump, the infamous Santa Monica restaurant selling whale meat; helped shut down several illegal operations selling endangered sharks in China, but in case you've missed it, we've extended our fight to also save species on land. Just last week, our team helped put three poachers in jail for selling wild Sumatran tigers, there's only an estimated 200 of them left in the wild. This past year we finished @gamechangersmovie, a film that premiered at Sundance and Berlin and will probably save more animals and preserve more environment and wild habitat than most environmental films, because we make a pretty convincing case that eating whole foods and mainly plants is a superior form of nutrition than eating animal products. I know it looks like we're making films about saving animals and busting bad guys, but we're really in the business of scaling social change. To that end, films are the most powerful weapon in the world. The Cove helped save thousands of dolphins and porpoises every year from being killed for human consumption, our film @racingextinction was seen by 36 million people in 220 countries and territories on the first day it aired on television. For our educational campaign Racing Extinction was downloaded by teachers 44,000 times and shown to over 2.5 million students. If you saw the pile of letters written by some of those students and teachers it would bring tears to your eyes - that film helped create thousands of activists around the world. The projections events of endangered species we helped create on The Empire State Building, The Vatican and The United Nations with our friends at Obscura Digital had over 5.4 billion collective media views and in the U.S. helped lead to creation of a West Coast legal firewall that prevents some of the most endangered species from entering our ports. If you haven't seen those projections, please them out - link in our story. For #GivingTuesday, please consider us when giving - we could use your help changing the world. DONATE NOW - LINK IN BIO.
