We are the Oceanic Preservation Society, OPS for short, a kind of double entendre because one thing we do is undercover work; we exposed , helped bust The Hump, the infamous Santa Monica restaurant selling whale meat; helped shut down several illegal operations selling endangered sharks in China, but in case you've missed it, we've extended our fight to also save species on land. Just last week, our team helped put three poachers in jail for selling wild Sumatran tigers, there's only an estimated 200 of them left in the wild. This past year we finished @, a film that premiered at Sundance and Berlin and will probably save more animals and preserve more environment and wild habitat than most environmental films, because we make a pretty convincing case that eating whole foods and mainly plants is a superior form of nutrition than eating animal products. I know it looks like we're making films about saving animals and busting bad guys, but we're really in the business of scaling social change. To that end, films are the most powerful weapon in the world. The Cove helped save thousands of dolphins and porpoises every year from being killed for human consumption, our film @ was seen by 36 million people in 220 countries and territories on the first day it aired on television. For our educational campaign Racing Extinction was downloaded by teachers 44,000 times and shown to over 2.5 million students. If you saw the pile of letters written by some of those students and teachers it would bring tears to your eyes - that film helped create thousands of activists around the world. The projections events of endangered species we helped create on The Empire State Building, The Vatican and The United Nations with our friends at Obscura Digital had over 5.4 billion collective media views and in the U.S. helped lead to creation of a West Coast legal firewall that prevents some of the most endangered species from entering our ports. If you haven't seen those projections, please them out - link in our story.
