Thousands of LAUSD teachers gathered in front of Los Angeles City Hall Monday to rally and march to the LAUSD headquarters. Teachers walked out of classrooms from more than 900 schools in the district.
After two years of negotiations, thousands of teachers went on strike Monday.
The teacher union’s demands are for a 6.5 percent raise, lower class sizes, more counseling and nursing resources at local campuses and regulation of charter schools.
The school district says they don't have the money. .

The Carnival Airship flies over the Queen Mary and the cruise ship Carnival Imagination in Long Beach on Thursday, January 10, 2019 to mark the upcoming arrival of Carnival Cruise Lines newest ship, the Carnival Panorama. She works out or hikes five days a week. She can deadlift about 150 pounds and she spent her birthday on Thursday at the gym doing a routine inspired by her age: 82.
Marguerite Skaggs — her kids call her Marge, but she prefers Maggie — was in fairly good shape until she retired from her job making boxes at a factory, she said.

One year ago, on Jan. 10, 2018, Orange County Sheriff’s Department investigators found 19-year-old Blaze Bernstein’s body in a shallow grave near Borrego Park in Foothill Ranch.
The city of Lake Forest, as part of its “Expand the Forest” program, worked with the family to plant a tree at Borrego Park where Bernstein’s body was found.

Surgeon Jim Jackson, right, lost his medical license after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. One day, he walked into a gym and began training with MMA fighter Johnny Mercurio, left. Four years later, Jackson is trying to restart his medical career, and Mercurio has expanded his training to people with MS and Parkinson’s disease.
