The Seven Rila Lakes are a group of glacial lakes in the northwestern part of the highest mountain on the Balkan peninsula, the Rila Mountain. They are included into the Rila National Park, the largest in Bulgaria, which was established in 1992. Spanning at elevation between 2,100 and 2,500 m a.s.l., the lakes are connected by small streams forming tiny waterfalls and cascades. Each lake carries a name associated with its most characteristic feature. The lakes, listed from the highest to the lowest, are as follows: Salzata ("The Tear"), Okoto ("The Eye"), Babreka ("The Kidney"), Bliznaka ("The Twin"), Trilistnika ("The Trefoil"), Ribnoto Ezero ("The Fish Lake") and Dolnoto Ezero ("The Lower Lake"). The waters that flow out of the lakes are gathered to form the Dzherman River. Because of its natural breathtaking environment, the Seven Lakes are not only a tourist attraction, but also a place of special significance to the followers of a religious cult Danovism. #rilalakes #rilanationalpark #sevenrilalakes #natgeo #hiking #wondersoftheworld #beautifulplanetearth #beautifuldestinations #protectedarea #nationalpark #bulgaria #visitbulgaria #nature #naturegram #naturephotography #keelexploring #mountain #hikingtrail #croatsinbulgaria #wonderfulbulgaria #naturelovers #glaciallakes

Sofia, the capital and largest city of Bulgaria, lies at the foot of Vitosha Mountain in the western part of the country. Strategically placed in the centre of the Balkan peninsula, it is midway between the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea, and closest to the Aegean Sea. With a history that stretches over seven millennia, Sofia is one of Europe's oldest cities, easily observed through many Thracian, Roman, Christian, Islamic and Jewish monuments standing so close together. Some of the most recognizable city symbols include: the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, the oldest and most authoritative theatre in the country named after the most prominent Bulgarian poet, novelist and playwright; the remnants of the Eastern Gate from the old town of Serdika and Sredets, dating from the 2nd-4th centuries CE, exhibited in the underpass connecting the Presidential Palace and The Ministerial Council; the Memorial Church Saint Alexander Nevsky, commemorating the liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottoman Empire during the Russo-Turkish war; the Banya Bashi Mosque, built in the 16th century over the natural thermal spas. The city’s annual celebration is held on September 17, in honor of the martyrdom of Saint Sofia and her three daughters Vyara (Faith), Nadezhda (Hope), and Lyubov (Love). #sofia #bulgaria #capitalcity #visitsofia #visitbulgaria #natgeo #travelgram #historychannel #journeythroughtime #landmarks #citywonders #croatsinbulgaria #explorebulgaria #alwaystravelling #alwaysonthemove #vsco #monumental

The theatre can host between 5000 and 7000 spectators and it is currently in use. #plovdiv #plovediv #bulgaria #romantheatre #romanruins #historychannel #viasathistory #croatsinbulgaria #anthic #stillinuse #culturalheritage #wonderlustbulgaria #landmark #architecturaldigest #instatravel #travelgram
