Not everyone knows this, but that’s why I’m here to spread the knowledge. 🔹It is customary to tip your body piercer! This also goes for tattoo artists, but I’m a piercer, so I’m focusing on that. ▪️Piercing artists are independent contractors. We do not get paid an hourly wage. All of our income is earned by piercing. ▪️We also work for a percentage. Meaning, we do not get to keep the money you spend on a piercing. We get a percentage of that money, and the rest goes to the shop we work in.
For many piercers, that percentage is half, or less than half of the cost of your piercing. ▪️We do not make extra money by selling jewelry or aftercare products. 🔹A customary tip is about 20% of your total price. If your piercer goes above and beyond for you, feel free to tip a little extra.
We might do special things like:
•Taking extra time to have a really in-depth consultation with you or help you pick out the perfect jewelry. •Doing little things to help calm you down if you’re super nervous. •Answering loads of questions. •Teaching you breathing techniques or other ways to help make the piercing process as comfortable as possible for you. •If you’re a heavy bleeder, and we take extra time and care to clean up loads of your blood.
Just to name a few.
Not tipping your body artist is just like not tipping your server if you had a good experience at a restaurant. Or not tipping your stylist after a great hairstyle. Bad form.
And now you know. So, go forth and make it rain on the people who provide a service to beautify your body! 💕 Feel free to share this post! #piercerlife #bodypiercerlife #tipyourpiercer #tipyourartist #bodypiercer #piercersofinstagram
