Not every individual was built to deadlift from the floor. Force feeding the conventional deadlift off the floor straight into dysfunction and pain is a common trend amongst trainers and athletes today. You are not a PUSSY if you can not conventional deadlift from the floor. The following modifications can be applied. - Height of the barbell (block pulls) - Changing stance (Sumo,if moderate ext rotation is presented at the hips) - Using a Trap bar (Changes the angle of the lift) - Starting from the top/down (Working the eccentric phase of the lift) - Use DB’s or KB’s. Find yourself a coach who can teach you how to hip hinge and apply the following steps into a program that meets your specific mechanical needs. Slowly working my way back into pain free squatting. For months I suffered a sharp pain that would refer into my right groin and hip flexor. I continued to ignore the signs and push my way through it. Finally got an MRI and the results came through as an inigual hernia. Results that stand the test of time require hard work. Coaching has allowed me the opportunity to work with hundreds of people. The most important thing I have learnt, is physical and aesthetic progress takes time and hard work. Like getting a degree, or climbing a corporate ladder, you have to apply yourself. It needs to be a focus and a priority. It’s important to understand that the concept of getting in shape, for the most part, isn’t complicated. If you address the following and make them apart of your daily routine, you will be on your way to not only feeling better (which is most important) but also looking the goods too. Stop eating processed food. Shop, prepare and eat nutrient dense foods. It is not calories in VS calories out. Hormone function controls fat loss not energy expenditure alone. Minimise stress. Easier said than done but vital in creating homeostasis in the body. Adopt a training regime that combines strength work and conditioning elements. Sleep. You need to sleep deeply and consistently. Be patient. Majority of people you may aspire to, have likely been doing the above for years. Educate and outsource. If you don’t know how to achieve the above, hire someone who does. You either pay for it now or you pay for it later. The focus is to offer a high quality lifting experience to men, that are looking to try something new or to continue to build on their existing experience. Working this week out of the mrs gym. I must say it’s been quite refreshing. Hitting 10 sets of 6 today on the zercher squat. I have terrible posture and excessively poor thoracic ext, on top of a lack of ext rotation in the shoulders. Hit some Zercher Squats today. Not really training for strength so I was surprised to manage 140kg today. In the second video I attempt 150kg which goes slightly wrong. I lose my midline which in turn makes the bar roll down my forearms making it feel drastically heavier. Fat grips are a great way to mix up your training. There are so many benefits to using fat grips and since starting a combat sport, (freestyle wrestling) I can definitely feel the difference in my grip strength and endurance. Here is why you should be using fat grips. 1. Improve joint health and reduce the risk of tendinitis 2. Improve neuromuscular efficiency. 3. Improve grip strength and size. 4. Improve upper limb stability. 5. Improve your deadlift numbers.
