Welcome to our Northern Ontario homestead where we are continually learning, experimenting and expanding. It isn't always easy, but it is rewarding.

Long day today. I was woke up by a phone call from my Mom that Dad had fallen off a ladder while coming off the roof and he landed on the deck right onto his back. So while they took the ambulance up, I rushed around and fed all the animals before heading up to the hospital. After x-rays, ultrasounds and a CT scan, they determined that he broke a vertebra in his back. I took them home and then headed home myself just in time to feed the animals and tuck them in for the night. #bedtime #lifehappens #countryliving #brokenback #longday #hoursatthehospital #couldhavebeenworse #gladmydadwillbeok

My daughter, her boyfriend and I went to #boardshoneyfarm today. We enjoyed the bees and bought some tasty honey. Today I bought Creamed Cinnamon Honey and a Propolis Tincture. I will wait for their fall sale to get our regular honey. We also went over to #rockcliffpottery and shopped there and Toni took us step by step through the process of throwing a cup. Too bad I didn't think to take pictures there. #honey #naturalremedies #sotasty #spendingtimewithmydaughter #dayaway #shoppinglocal #pottery #friendlyservice #greatafternoon

I had to prune a maple and crabapple tree today before my husband decided to do it. He doesn't take esthetics into consideration when he does it. He just wants to whack back what is dragging along the top of the truck or what smacks him in the head as he cuts grass. The rabbits should enjoy the chunks of sticks I cut for them. It should keep them busy for awhile.

If you can't find me on the homestead just look a little closer because I blend into the barn board with my new hair. Actually I am loving it. Thanks @donna_pollett. #newhaircut #homestead #noneedforcamo #camo #lovingmyhair #barnboard #countryliving

As autumn approaches I realize that so much still needs to be done before the snow flies. The lessons my homestead has taught me are: 1) there's always more to do. 2) don't procrastinate, you'll regret it. 3) things never go as simply and as smoothly as you figure they will #lessonsonthehomestead #homesteading #farmlife #farmdog #countryliving #procrastinating #itneverends #choresneeddoing #fallisintheair #runningoutoftime

Here is one of our buff orpington roosters. He's a real handsome fellow, but he and our other rooster are fighting over the "girls". We also have at least 2, maybe 3, roosters in our youngsters. So this fellow is for sale. Anyone local interested? #bufforpington #rooster #homesteading #countryliving #farmlife #needsanewhome #wonagainsttheracoon #friendlyandlaidback

With so many small chores to be done, on the homestead, it can look like you've gotten nothing accomplished. I think that's why I like cutting the lawn, with a ride-on mower of course. You can SEE the difference. #cuttingthelawn #doingmychores #johndeere #alwaysajobtodo #countryliving #countrylife #homesteading #farmlife #agirlsworkisneverdone

Cage cleaning day. Got a few cages and supplies pressure washed and sprayed down with watered down Listerine today. I will be back at it tomorrow. Man, do I need a shower. #cleaningcages #reallyneedashower #homesteading #countryliving #farmlife

Joe's trying to get as much done on the new coop as possible. We would like it finished before the snow flies. #chickens #bufforpington #buildingachickencoop #roofing #getdonebywinter #beforethesnowflies #duckhouse #chickencoop #countrylife #homesteading #farmlife

It's always a good idea to stop and enjoy small things in your busy day. Today I took time to appreciate the miniature roses that my daughter had given me for Mother's Day last year. Yesterday we went to my aunt and uncle's place to press apples for apple cider vinegar. They had picked 3 large buckets of apples from their tree before we even arrived. While the guys got Joe's new fruit press set up, and figured out a system they wanted to use, Aunt Irini and I took a hike up Dechany Falls. Once we got back from our hike we all got down to business. Of course we had to sample the fresh apple cider (although some people added more than cider in their glass). All in all it was a great day! Step #2 making vinegar from the cider. Joe and Uncle Justin are going to try different methods, should be interesting. Wish us luck. #applecidervinegar #teamwork #greatday #figuringoutasystem #homesteading #countrylife #farmlife #apples #winepress #

Rabbit again tonight. A stuffed loin this time, done on the BBQ. Two rabbits can stretch over quite a few meals for us. We still have the bones simmering in the Crockpot for soup and all the legs are going to be tomorrow's dinner. #meatrabbits #growingourownfood #yummy #countryliving #homesteading #farmlife #bbqbunny #makingourmealsstretch

Yummy hopper poppers were on the menu tonight. My husband, @foodieincommanda made an amazing meal once again. Thanks Babe! #delishious #lovemyfoodiehusband #meatrabbits #growingourownfood #youcanneverhavetoomuchcheese #farmlife #countryliving #homesteading

Last week I shared this photo on my private account, but I like it so much I decided to share it here as well. We went for a drive and a picnic with our girls and we even took Jazz. She needs more socialization. She barked at everyone and her bark is quite a hefty bark. #picnic #picnicwiththefamily #goodgirl #farmdog #countrylife #adayoff #relaxing

We're building a new coop for the ducks and chickens. They've outgrown the old one. We may even be able to mount quail cages on the wall of the duck side of the building. It's a thought anyway. #chickencoop #chickens #ducks #quail #newbuilding #outgrowingthespace #farmlife #countryliving #homesteading

Took a nice stroll with Jazz. Love the fact my shadow makes me look tall and slender. #walkingmydog #takingawalk #shadow #tallandslender #lovelysummerevening #gettingsomeexercise

Joe's been at it again. He canned 20 jars of dill pickles last night. Love that man, he's my hero! #wonderfulhusband #canning #dillpickles #lovemydillpickles #husbandcomfortableinthekitchen #myhero #homesteading #countrylife #countryliving #farmlife #storingupforwinter
