I got to spend the evening working on a whimsical birthday cake with a dear friend for her son yesterday. Despite the messy food colouring and the tiny bits of fondant that didn’t want to cooperate, we had a ton of fun! This touched on a theme that I discuss in my new book. In a nutshell - if it doesn’t bring you joy, then skip it! #icingonthecakebook is full of decorative desserts that are equally delicious as they are beautiful. But what is considered “beautiful” might vary from person to person. If you find it ridiculous to spend time braiding pie dough or hate piping on cupcakes, you don’t have to do it. A regular lattice and a slather of frosting will tastes just as good! But if you live for intricate details and find it fun to experiment with sugar and butter, then I am here for you. Although sometimes frustrating at first, piping these buttercream roses brings me so much joy. Bottom line, the fun should outweigh the stress. Okay, that’s enough talk for Saturday morning!!
