Week 1 Challenge: What is my ‘why’? Honestly this question kind of confuses me. More like... why not? I’m young, healthy, and more importantly, able to take charge of my own health and fitness. I previously posted my transformation over the past few years, but that’s not my ‘why’ anymore. My ‘why’ now is more for my personal mental health. The gym is my happy place, as sappy as that sounds. It’s my place to get away, to focus on myself, and let out all anger and frustration I may have. Day 1 of this challenge requires having an honest conversation with myself regarding my habits, goals, and my fears about self. I am currently 317 pounds. This did not happen overnight; this level of weight does not happen because I am constantly working. This happens when you choose to not invest in self. I chose to #UberEat. I made countless decisions to order Olive Garden because the food came in huge portions. I chose to overeat and never questioned the impact it would have on me. I have failed myself. Honestly, I am worried that I may not see my wedding day. My fiancée has been worried about my heavy breathing, my sleep apnea, and my stress. I am afraid that I am not only letting myself down, but her also. I am afraid that I will get to a point where there is no going back. However, coming to this place creates a sense of self-discovery. Day 15: Legs. Found myself in an unofficial lifting competition with a random gym-goer on the smith machine beside me during lunch workout. Plate for plate, rep for rep... the battle ensued for at least 10’s of minutes! I was victorious in the end, but the guy was also probably 15-years my senior. My creative ego likes to believe he’s a retired powerlifter/strength coach and was silently impressed by my amateur strength... I have a lot of reasons for entering this challenge...again. I haven't been happy with my results, I'm really good at giving up, I lack motivation, I lack self confidence, this will give me the push I need. I have always felt that I could do better. When I was in highschool all the way up until I got pregnant I was around 150lbs consistently but still felt that I wasn't as skinny as the other girls, that I could do better. I guess I've always lacked confidence in myself. Fast forward to almost 2 years ago I got pregnant and the first half of my pregnancy I stayed small but by the end of my pregnancy I realized I had gained an extra 50lbs, which was not my plan. After I had my son I lost weight pretty quick because I was walking and taking care of him and not going to work. After maternity leave I went back to my sedentary job, I was going through PPD being away from my son for 10 hours a day and I started packing on the pounds. Now my son is almost 2 and I still haven't met my goals, but this time I am determined. I need to prove to myself that I have the will power and the strength and I can do this. Also to set a good example to my kids and to other people going through the same things. I also want to give a shout-out to my husband for being by my side through everything. Is it still #transformationtuesday when you transformed from an athlete to a blob of white fat?!? 😥 I have always struggled with my body fat for as long as I can remember. I remember being a 200lb sixth grader with horrible self esteem. I carried obesity with me into adulthood. It wasn’t until the early 20’s that I took hold of the reigns and brought myself into a healthy balance. That’s when I met the love of my life, and not long after we started a family. As my wife gained weight healthily through the first pregnancy, I spun out of control, constantly craving sugary foods and snacks. It didn’t take long to get back to obesity, and more extreme then ever. Now I’m 28, obese, and regretting the decisions of the past few years. I want to share this journal entry to hold myself accountable, and also to connect with those with a similar struggle. Week 1 of the @bodybuildingcom @optimumnutrition #250kchallenge2018 : who or what is your motivation? Just me. If you have been following me for a while you know I am an extreme person. I will pour my whole heart and soul into something I enjoy and find fulfilling. Unfortunately, in the past that lead to a cost. I sacrificed a lot of time for a strict regimen that yielded amazing results. It cost me doing little things that fill my soul to the rim so I could hit a goal. I spent more time doing things that were no longer my thing so I wouldn't feel like I was letting others (including IG) down. In late 2017 I decided I didn't care what happened, what sponsorship I lost, what new found two faced human surfaced, nor how much fucking weight or muscle gains I lost. I just wanted to start being down right happy. My inspiration is finding that balance. The balance of eating food bc it is an absolute fucking human need, not bc I'm going through a mind fuck deciding if I should eat or not. The balance of moving to feel good, not for a specific weight or body type. The balance of resting bc I need it. And even the balance of things I put value to, including consumerism, ending some people pleasing ways and real shit talk that sometimes lingers in my mind. This all arose at the perfect time as I've had 2 friends suddenly pass away and another going through a second bone marrow transplant and radiation...again. The last friend is the most alive person I know and influences me to lead as fulfilling of a life as possible. Nothing sexy. Nothing out of the ordinary to inspire me. No huge weight loss or transformation goal. If I don't win the entire challenge, I will already have won the biggest challenge yet. That balance we all seek.

250kchallenge2018: What's your why? I've always struggled with depression and for me going to the gym and bodybuilding has been a very positive outlet. I'm not brand new to fitness about to start some transformation for the first time, my journey started years ago, I've always been dedicated to the gym, going regularly, eating healthy, and I've always taken pride in my work ethic and consistency. And yet in all this time never really gotten the physique that I've wanted. It's small things like skipping a cardio day, eating late, lapsing in my diet, always in the back of my head fishing for excuses to slack off, but those little things add up. This year is going to be different for a lot of reasons but mainly because I've met the love of my life @brandienoelle and for the first time I'm not going at this journey alone. My fiancée and I are both in the challenge first and foremost to better ourselves and to get in shape for our wedding. We both work hard and save as much money as we can to invest it in our future and hopefully start our family soon. * * At the end of the day I want to look back on this and say that I laid out everything on the table, put in the work, and didn't leave anything behind. It dosent matter what happens, knowing in your heart that you've given something your all, and the satisfaction that comes with that is worth more then any kind of title or prize money. I’m not one to embrace #fitnesschallenges. However, over the weekend I entered a #fitnesstransformation contest hosted by @bodybuildingcom. The top prize is quite substantial. There are also a smaller prizes that are goal specific, such as building muscle, best male transformation, and best social media motivator. I think I have an opportunity to take home some serious cash and the challenge lines up with my goals right now. • • • My goals are staggered if you will. First, after much consideration, I don’t think I am efficiently partitioning nutrition because I am such a high #bodyfat. I’ve flirted with 15-16% BF before, but I decided to pursue strength and ate to get stronger at the sacrifice of leanness. I may have been able to accomplish both, but I wanted to chase a big total and didn’t think I’d be able to do it as quickly if I dieted down simultaneously. I missed one of my lift goals this year, but looking back on it now, I think it was a little lofty. I’m no longer interested in an absolute total and am chasing something relative, so a lower bodyweight may be to my advantage. I’ve decided to diet down to 15% bodyfat to chase that efficient nutrition partitioning. • • • December for me is usually an #allyoucaneat contest with limited training due to travel, even after I decided to #eatandtrain with a purpose. I’ve accepted the fact that I’ll come into the New Year a tad heavier than before #Thanksgiving, but didn’t think I’d be this heavy. No sweat, though. I’m able to eat to support my goals. There’s little to no emotional food issues here and I know how to plan as well as to what to eat and in what quantities to hit specific #macronutrient goals. • • • I’ll share some of my training sessions and progress along the way.
