Thursday’s #mamaventure took us to Corona, Queens to check out the #unisphere!
If you’re wondering how I choose the places we go to each week, they usually come to me out of curiosity. Sometimes it’s a couple of days prior, and sometimes it’s after we’ve already left the apartment and are walking to the subway (I know, I know, you planners out there are probably cringing from the sound of that). Don’t get me wrong, I love planned travel too, and can be super Type A with work-related stuff, but mamaventures is all about the spontaneity of the day. It’s a way to break up the monotony of the week. So I really look forward to just going with my gut and curiosity and seeing where the day takes us!
In yesterday’s case, the unisphere popped into my head from seeing it peak out from the trees every time you drive into the city from Long Island. I always remembered when I was younger, wondering what it was. I realized that even though I’d been to the US Open many times before, I’d never actually had the time to check out the unisphere or walk the park around it. It’s actually a fun little spot where kids run around under the massive globe fountain, there’s a lake attached to the park and you can rent chopper bikes to take around the park, which we did. They also have the Queens Botanical Garden there, a zoo nearby, and the Queens Museum.
But man, the food options are basically non-existent, besides a couple of super basic concession stands. For that reason alone I wouldn’t come back here, unless going to Citifield Stadium or the US Open. The dining experience for our mamaventure days is mas importante! Especially now that H can eat all solid food, I really enjoy sharing food experiences with him.
So we hopped back on the 7 train in the direction of Manhattan, and got off at 46th street/bliss street to check out what’s supposedly the best Paranguayan restaurant in nyc called I Love Paraguay.
Such a cute little restaurant in Sunnyside, Queens. We tried some traditional dishes like the cheese soufflé and the Paraguay madcada. H crushed them like a champ. I also had their delicious sangria!
Have you ever spent any time around the unisphere?
