My plan to run the length of New Zealand is quite frankly an extremely selfish endeavour. Having said that, I am overwhelmed by the amount of goodwill and support I have received so far and whilst I do not intend for my adventure to be a charity fundraiser, I would like to raise awareness of a couple of incredible causes I have personal links to;
Comunidad Connect are a small charity supporting community development through health and social projects in rural Nicaragua. My plan was born whilst I was working in Nicaragua last winter. With my cobbled together Spanish I made great friends and was touched by the spirit of the beautiful community I became part of. Since April this year, yet again, the country has been struggling with political instability, making a tough life even harder. @ are able to direct funding to where it is needed most. . The RNIB support people affected by sight loss throughout the UK. My Grandad suffered from Macular Degeneration during the last 20 years of his life - leaving him with almost no sight whatsoever. His home life was made easier as a result of tools and support provided by the RNIB. Continual support will ensure that @ are able to have a similar impact on the lives of others suffering from sight loss.
I am not pledging to raise a specific amount of money for either charity, nor will I relentlessly tout over the coming months, but if you are able to simply take a look at the amazing work both charities do, I would be over the moon. If all you do is read this post - that’s great too. However, if you are feeling generous and would like to donate, you are able to do this directly via the web pages of both charities. If you do the latter, please let me know so I can thank you personally.
If you have got this far.. thank you so much for reading! .
Happy sweaty trail running adventure wishes,
