For many reasons it took me a very long time to actually love my skin.
To be proud of it’s pigment, it’s darkness, it’s ancestral history.
To be comfortable in my own skin.
To realise that regardless of the colour of my skin or my gender, I’m entitled to feel empowered, be worthy, to feel safe but above all to BELONG.
I’m entitled to a seat at the table and be part of this huge melting pot we call the human race.
To have a voice.
To be equal.
But as always I also believe that with that gift and entitlement comes something just as important.
It’s an integral part of the balance.
I believe we need to be accountable.
To be mindful.
We need to seek understanding.
To withhold judgements unless truthfully founded.
But to abstain from any unnecessary judgments.
To hold tightly to a moral compass that guides us towards peace, tolerance, kindness, compassion and respect.
To protect the environment and the ecosystems that support it.
To nurture the minds of the next generations so that they can warmly embrace other cultures, have a gentle awareness of different beliefs, different ideas, respect the lives of others, their surroundings, have a thirst for learning and help them acquire a deeper understanding and empathy of journeys that are different to their own. .
May you all be surrounded by much love and light! ✨
