AIP Diet (Autoimmune Protocol): Let me start by saying that the The AIP Diet is definitely NOT for everyone and is NOT to be adhered to long term, approximately 6 weeks.
This diet is one to be considered by anyone with an Autoimmune Disease. If you suffer from psoriasis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Hashimoto's, Crohn's Disease, or any other AI disease...you may want to consider trying the AIP for 6 weeks. It is a version of the diet, although much stricter, designed to reduce inflammation in the body and RELIEVE, NOT CURE, symptoms of autoimmune disorders.
The purpose of this diet is to ELIMINATE all foods that may cause inflammation (grains, gluten, dairy, eggs, legumes, sugar, alcohol, food additives and gum) and to EAT vitamin and nutrient rich foods (veggies (avoiding nightshade veggies), sweet potatoes, lean meat and fish, minimal fruit, fermented foods, bone broth, green tea, vinegars, coconut oil/flour, avocado and olive oils, honey and maple syrup). The foods you eliminate are done so for approximately 6 weeks and are slowly reintroduced one at a time .
Pros: ✔helps to reset the immune system ✔reduced symptoms of Autoimmune disorders ✔helps prevent autoimmune response
✔may improve symptoms of IBD
✔prevents occurance of a 2nd AI disease
❌very restrictive ❌short term, not meant to be a way of life
❌can be pricey eating organic, healthy whole foods 🚩 it is important to remember that while this diet is not for everyone, there is no diet that is one-size-fits-all. You have to choose a diet that fits your lifestyle and your goals.
