A Monday Mystery
How has this pack of cards survived one hundred years without anyone opening it? The New and Diverting Game of Alice in Wonderland with 48 pictorial cards adapted and elaborately rendered in colours from Sir John Tenniel's original designs by E. Gertrude Thomson, in the same manner as she adapted The Nursery Alice in 1889. The set is in beautiful condition with the pack of cards still wrapped in original pink paper and secured by tightly knotted white cotton. The two part box contains a rules leaflet and advert for various Gibson’s Games of Skill and Amusement which dates the pack to c. 1919. What surprised us most was that the outer box must have originally as bright pink as the inner one.
