I wish I could freeze this moment in time forever, bottle it up, and open it any time I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed.
Most people don’t know that I have been battling anxiety for years. Some days, I can get through it with meditation, yoga, and deep breathing. Other days, it gets so bad that I feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest, restricting my breathing, spiraling my thoughts, and not letting me get out of bed.
A few months ago, something truly incredible happened. I cancelled a work dinner because my anxiety was through the roof and instead of the usual “get over it” or “just feel better,” one of my coworkers, someone I now consider a friend, told me he understands and hopes I get the rest I need.
It’s not taboo, you are not alone, and you do not have to be ashamed of how you feel. Every single person is fighting a battle you will never see. We’re all strong, we’re all vulnerable, we’re all human, and we’re all in this together. It’s okay to feel sad, overwhelmed, distraught, happy, excited, anxious... it’s okay to feel, and it’s okay to not hide it.
