My last night in Bruges and in Belgium. I've only been here for a few days in total as I want to keep moving to the UK as I'm just so close now. So I decided on Bruges for three nights and will leave the rest of the country until later this year when I most probably cross the Channel to France then head up the coast.
There's so many places to explore here, names I've become familiar with by reading so many history books, Waterloo, Ypres, Poizieres, Passchendaele, Bastogne....and they're all so close.
However everything is 'so close' in Europe, unlike Australia, and a lot of Central Asia I've travelled through. Here I can go just another 30 or 40kms and I'm at another historical place, or point of beauty that I'd love to visit. But it will have to wait until my time back in the UK is over.
Bruges itself is one of the prettiest European cities I've been to, and no matter what we were told in the film 'In Bruges' it's certainly not a sh*thole 😅 I've really enjoyed walking around exploring all the nooks and crannies, the canals, and all the old buildings. 😉
The beer was a major draw for me too, and I've not been disappointed with that. The beer I'm holding in the picture is one of my favourites and one I used to pay considerably more for in Australia when I bought it by the slab. Much tastiness 👌
So tomorrow I head into the Netherlands for 10 days or so to catch up with more mates and to enjoy another lovely country. It's still hard to believe I've made it all the way from Australia without an aeroplane ✌💙
