Most people don’t know, but weightlifting isn’t all about strength, but your mentality plays a big part in how well you perform. You can have the best training cycle leading up to a meet, but if you let distractions get in the way or your mindset isn’t right you will struggle on lifts you have successfully done before. Then you can have a mediocre training cycle, but go out with a clear mind, have fun, and trust the process and next thing you know you go 6 for 6 and set 2 all time PRs. You can see in these two comparison lifts of my snatch and clean and jerk from yesterday (misses) to October of last year (makes). Yesterday I let my mind get distracted due to travels, a death in family, and questioning the process and it showed on the platform. Back in October I went coach free, just wanted to have fun, and had no mental distractions or blocks. And I had one of my best meets.

Not my best meet, but also not my worst. I think with travels and everything going on this last few weeks I psyched myself out and wasn’t feeling particularly strong. My legs felt like jelly even after tapering and my warmups got a little screwed up which got to me mentally. And technically I shouldn’t have gotten my 2nd clean and jerk (press out), but was called good by a 2-1 decision. I still hit my openers at 79kg snatch and 100kg clean and jerk and the 104kg was called good so finished 3 out of 6. Biggest progress I can take away from this meet is that each meet I open 1 kilo higher on my snatch and each time I successfully make my opener. Thank you @spsgym for a successfully ran meet and for putting up with me even when I get stubborn. And thank you @mikebodymechanic for continuing to believe in me even when I get discouraged. I will come back and get it in the next meet.

Worked up to my openers. Went up in weight until I hit my number or missed once. I successfully was able to hit all my warmup snatches up to 79kg/174lbs with no misses. For clean and jerks I hit all my clean and jerks up to 100kgs/220lbs, but technically I missed the 105kg/231lb clean on my final attempt as my elbow grazed my knee. I recovered and made the jerk. I was successfully able to hit 104kg earlier this week with no miss plus my legs feel like jelly in this 90 degree thick humid air of Nashville. But that is no excuse as I really need to fix my upper body rounding on heavy cleans. Last video is proof that I hit 100kg cleanly. Ready for taper week for @spsgym Championships.

3 hours later and I’m still on an adrenaline highπŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ’₯ β€’ Snatches went smoothly even though I basically did them on an EMOM πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Ended with a solid 49kg which meant I needed a 76kg clean and jerk to hit my qualifying total. β€’ My plan was to open at 72kg...I hit 70 in the back and then waited for my first attempt. I was on deck (or so I thought) after the lifter before me hit 70 and then 72. When they called for 74 I thought @pfromm43 was being sneaky and figured oh what the hell that should be no biggie. Then they called for 76kg and I was like πŸ€” The judges weren’t phased when we told them that they had skipped my attempt and then I heard my name called to take 76kg. I had no other choice but say fuck it and just go for it...aaaand I missed the jerk. β€’ Came back out and smashed it for my 2nd attempt🀘🏼 Ended up going 5/6 with meet PR’s in snatch and total which means HOLY SHIT I QUALIFIED FOR AO2 πŸ’ƒπŸ» β€’ Huge thank you to @pfromm43 coaching me even while on crutches and keeping my head on straight, @rasugarm for running around and checking the screen to put in my attempts, @littleleahlifts for the vids and post-meet pizza, and my @breakingpoint_cfra fam for all the texts and good vibes. A good part of me is embarrassed to have these pictures, let alone allow anyone see them. Left is January 19th, right is May 5th. I’ve been consistently training for the better part of the last decade but a lot of my recovery and eating habits could be described as β€œaccidental.” As I got into my 30s, it was catching up in spite of working out. Staying regimented with an @rpstrength base template(no cutting, just not eating shit) and sleeping like normal human has made a world of difference in the way I work out, feel and look. It hasn’t been a perfect 4 months. I ate a lot of eggshells and got it wrong a bunch. But if you end up getting it right more often than not, you’re probably doing better than you were. Not the meet I was wanting. I started feeling under the weather on Friday and then was completely out of it on Saturday. This morning I felt better thanks to my girlfriend @ktheme helping me and trying to nurse me back to health (she makes an amazing chicken soup). I was able to make my planned snatch opener at 78kg, but my energy level dropped and I couldn’t even get my next two snatch attempts over my head. I decided to go conservative and dropped my 103kg clean and jerk opener down to 95kg. I was able to make 95kg, but energy was gone again and I missed 98kg. Came back and hit 98kg on my 3rd attempt, but by then all my energy was gone. I finished 3 for 6 with total of 176kg which to me is a win coming back from being sick. I want to thank the coaches at @spsgym and @ktheme and @rachelwholifts for support and videos. I will be back to health for the SPS Championships.

In doing so, she got a Snatch PR, she got 1st in her weight class, & finished 1st place overall with Sinclair against some very good lifters!
