Happy place! Anytime DC does an impression of NorCal is fine by me. I pretended I was on the #americanriverparkway and almost stopped smelling the sewage and jet fuel. 🏃🏼‍♀️🌞🚤. . . #running #potomac #womensrunningcommunity

Morning ride on the Parkway - my first ride on the Parkway with my new bike! It was nice and chilly, just how I like it. With beautiful clouds. Also how I like it.

Today's river hike along the American River was full of wildlife encounters-- there were the gopher snakes, an egret, and a family of turkeys with at least a dozen young gobble-gobbles running along the trail (I took a leashed Poppy elsewhere so as not to chase and scare them)! Poppy also met and was completely terrified of a red-eared slider turtle. It looked like this one might be preparing to lay some eggs, as I've witnessed prior near this same spot. I was glad Poppy was scared and not too interested. This bodes well for all involved, and we made our visit with turtle friend as brief as possible before moving along.. #turtlefriend #poppyseconds #americanriverparkway #americanriver #redearedslider #redearedsliders #naturegeek #sacramento #dogmeetsturtle #pitador #pitadorable #pitadorsofinstagram #sactowndogs

Quite possibly a Lake Natoma record today, getting 1,239 ft of elevation gain on my run with hill repeats up Heart Murmur Mountain, Irregular Heartbeat Hill and Stay Away From the Lights Heights (yes I made these up). Set out for a goal of 1,000 ft and beat it. These 5.5 miles kicked my ass #running #trailrunning #runnersofinstagram #runnerscommunity #instarunners #igrunners #optoutside #outsideismyinside #exercise #fitness #arpfsac #americanriverparkway #stravarun #hillrepeats #BOCOgear #technicaltrucker #lakenatomabluffs #lakenatoma

Two things I know: Life is weird, and river life is even weirder. Setting out to take Poppy on a river hike, I pondered which of my favorite spots to go to. I decided to head towards a favorite remote area but visions of snakes entered my mind. It is that time of year and I know to be extremely cautious; rattlers & other harmless snakes abound. I don't scare easily, and I've had encounters with rattlesnakes several times before, but I wondered why my mind could not get off the images of snakes. Was it an innate warning signal? I almost turned around to go to an easier spot but something in me kept going to this wilder American River destination. I kept my eyes open as I always do, but by the time I had forgotten all about my snake visions, Poppy sniffed something in the grasses and jumped back quickly. I listened for the sound of rattling and heard nothing so I held her back and took a peek. The strangest sight appeared: three or maybe more snakes were all bundled together, two of them obviously dead in a pile. They were gopher snakes, and I could not figure out the scene. A friendly fisherman walked by and I summoned him over--upon further inspection, we realized that they were stuck in some sort of plastic netting. One was a young snake (dead) and two were so huge, one of them still alive and there were maybe more -we could not tell with the grasses. Despite his uneasiness with snakes, even non-poisonous, the fisherman got out his small clippers and delicately cut the netting off of the large snake, though it was clearly wounded by the sharp plastic wrapped around it. We could hear the poor thing hissing at us but at least it was free and could move away from that bizarre little scene of death. I figured Poppy and I were supposed to be there, along with that nice guy who showed kindness despite fear. I don't know if someone had gathered them and put them in a netted bag or they'd crawled through that thing, and a part of me will still ponder it but mostly it goes right into that box in my mind of "weird, unexplained river happenings", one of so very many.. #americanriverparkway #riverlife #gophersnake #sacramento #americanriver #naturegeek

Tempo Tuesday. 4 mile tempo + a faster mile tag. Stellar day to be out on the Parkway and good to see some familiar runner and biker faces out there during my workout. 🏃🏼‍♂️🚴🏼‍♂️ #sacramentoproud

#TrainingTipTuesdays Being a strong runner means doing more than just running! 💪🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ • • Resistance training is a great way to build overall strength, power and mobility that will help improve your running! Whether you use weights, resistance bands, or even just a couple beach towels tied together😉, you can get some great workouts in with this type of training! • • Our athlete here is doing one of my favorite drills. Here’s how you can do it too! First, tie a resistance band, rope or towel to a sturdy pole or railing. Next step into the loop and keep it about waist high. Then, do your best to “run away” from where ever you tied your implement, keeping good posture and at a quick cadence. Do this for reps of about 30 seconds. If done right, I guarantee you will be feeling the burn around 10 seconds in!🔥 • • Comment your favorite type of resistance training below! 👇

From yesterday's super fun hike-- we met up with Poppy's very first best friend Alvie (and his people Dave & Debra) to further celebrate her Gotcha Day anniversary❤️ So while those two were off being crazy lunatics together (they truly are) I was appreciating the exotic catalpa tree blooms, the first datura bloom of the season, the crazy cottonwood tree fluff, the wildflowers and the bees and the beauty of it all! #paradisebeach #naturegeek #riverhike #cottonwood #ladybug #catalpa #catalpatree #datura #rustyleaves #americanriver #americanriverparkway @heartpunch99 @debra_and_dave #poppyseconds

#MotivationMonday When’s the last time you went “all in” ? • • • Often times, people find themselves going through life on “auto-pilot”. Though they may be getting the work done, the passion just isn’t there. Sometimes we need to stop and ask ourselves, “Am I really giving this my all?” If not, think about what you can do to change that, whether it be changing your attitude, your situation, or both. Passion in our activities, whether it’s running, working, creating, being a parent, teaching or anything else, is how we thrive as human beings. Make a commitment to yourself today to be the best you possible. • • • Now my question for you. What drives you? What passion are you going all in on?
