A unique place we found in a far-flung corner of northern Montana - the Polebridge Mercantile general store. The manager at the motel we stayed at outside Kalispell recommended a visit here for an "off the beaten track" experience. The clerk said the store has no electricity, so they get only a little bit each day from a generator to run the store (explaining why they couldn't grind coffee that wasn't already ground and in a bag). It was fun to walk around the store, and grab a few huckleberry brownies for the rest of the trip.
Polebridge is about 30-40 minutes northeast of the west entrance to Glacier National Park, and just a short distance from the Canadian border. The road there will give you a full lumbar adjustment, but is driveable in any car (just watch carefully for potholes). Photo taken June 26, 2011.
