I wasn’t happy about how I was feeling at 0.8 yesterday. I didn’t feel bad, I just didn’t feel like I did last week. So I decided to fast most of yesterday, until dinner. Last week, I didn’t have the luxury of having a ketometer, but day 3 was my BEST day. I felt so focused, energized yet calm. By Saturday evening, I was flying high at 4.3. This morning, I was at 1.1 and feeling pretty damn good for waking up at 510am while going to bed around midnight. Let me tell you something about myself. I NEED MY SLEEP 🤬😴. I don’t operate well in the morning. This morning, I did. I’m going to try and stay around 2.0, so I’ll fast most of the day tonight, except for coconut oil/butter in my coffee. Perhaps I’ll sip on some ketones/mct powder before training 💪🏽. Last night’s dinner was ground chorizo/ground bison meatballs and asparagus with ALOT of ghee 😋. Tonight? I’m getting me some roast duck or pork belly 👅. The mistake most people make is NOT eating enough fats. Seriously. There is this societal pressure about fat. Even as a nutrition coach and paramedic that understands the science, there is a palpable sense of fat as evil 🧀🍳🥩🚫👿. If you don’t eat enough fats, the “ketogenic” diet becomes just a ultra low carb/low fat diet. That’s the kind of diet that wrecks your body, not heals it. So measure measure measure. You need data to see how you react to fasting and how you react to certain protein and carb amounts. When in doubt, add fats 😬. Make this your go to drink at the first sign of a cold or internal inflammation. Turmeric has amazing superpowers to fight inflammation and it’s highly packed with antioxidants – the best part: it is gentle on the little tummies too – and so good for them! Recipe: 1 cup milk (almost or soy is ok too) ¾ teaspoon of turmeric (powder or fresh grated) 1 teaspoon honey 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger (optional) ¼ teaspoon black pepper (reduce it to a pinch if you prefer less spicy) Method: Mix all the ingredients together in a pan and bring to boil.
