It’s tank cleaning day!! I’m really crazy about cleaning my tank. I’m constantly checking my water metrics to make sure they are appropriate and healthy, but honestly — I want my tank to look good as well. I usually do about a 10-25% water change every other Saturday (or Monday) and then the opposite Saturday, I will do a 50% water change as well as a substrate stir & vacuum. Every other month, I will take out my plants and soak them in hot water to kill any algae (I don’t have to do this very often because my pleco does a great job at keeping it clean) and I will also soak my drift wood in tank water and scrub it with a (new & clean) toothbrush. On the opposite months, I take apart my filters, air pumps, tubes, air stones, heaters, thermometer, etc. and scrub them like crazy!!! Then I let them all sit in a bucket with some water and water clarifier to make sure there’s not any contamination from the tap water. I plan on making a video about the whole process soon so there’s a better understanding of how to really deep clean your tank! There’s so many different ways to do it, so I’d love to hear your process as well!
