I really like woodworking in the winter. I wake up, grab some food and head to the truck. I pull out the brush and dust off any snow that fell the night before. If I’m unlucky (or if it’s an average day in Canada) there’s also Ice to scrape. I turn the key and head down the lane. It’s usually about ten minutes before the truck is really warm; another eight minutes and I’m at the shop. Usually I sit for a couple minutes in the now-warm truck. I’ll check my email and facebook. Then I head inside. I usually start by putting on a pot of coffee. If it’s a good day I’ll be on the lathe a few minutes later, or taking pictures and writing up posts for social media. If it’s a bad day it usually takes me a few minutes to get going; I find that I really have to push myself if I want to consistently start on time. Thankfully, the biggest challenge is starting. Once the lathe is on (or the camera is out) the morning flies by. Then I sit down for lunch, and the cycle begins again. Get back to work. Let the hours fly. And before I know it it’s 4:47, I’m sweeping up and taking the garbage out, and the truck is slowly warming up again. I don’t know what it is, but something about the cold makes working seem almost cozy. #itwouldntifiworkedoutside
These past five years have been absolutely amazing. The feedback and reception have been incredible and it's what keeps me going. I started out with just three designs, and this year I released my forty-fifth.
I've showcased #cityneighborhoods, nicknames, seasons, and even #urbanlegends, highlighting many aspects of #Rochester. I'm far from done though, please dont read this as I'm taking a break or closing shop, just the opposite. 2019 will be awesome, with new themes and fleshing out existing series (I hear you #UpperMountHope and #MarketviewHeights). Right now though, I have an announcement. I have officially started a new project: @TheLostBorough. It will be a subset of Transit, and utilize the same series themes like city nicknames, seasons, neighborhoods, etc. The difference? It's for #Pittsburgh.
It's always been in the cards to expand, and #PittsburghPa was a natural progression. I recently exhibited my work at a fantastic local show called #HandmadeArcade, and was graciously accepted and the feedback was incredible. I started with five designs and can't wait to get started on more.
My heartfelt thanks to all of you for supporting this little idea I had, and allowing me to grow, and now expand to another city. Check out my other #Insta handle for more adventures in the #SteelCity.
