🔹The Human Condition🔹3/6
(reposted, because I wasn't yet satisfied with it 😆)
Even as I'm creating the different versions of this piece, I'm growing. I'm evolving. I'm getting better. I'm analyzing my own work as I create it... and I'm correcting myself as I'm creating. That's powerful growth. That's the "compare yourself to yourself" that other artists talk about. Analyze your own skills and abilities, see how they can be better, and improve them right there.
Many artists get a good chunk of the way into a piece, don't like how it turned out, but finish it anyway. And I understand why they do it, but I will start over. That first piece wasn't a waste, it was more practice for the final FINAL draft. I would much rather start from scratch than to look at a piece I invested so much energy into and not be happy with it. I want to be happy with the work I create. I want to know that it was the best I could create in the moment. And if it wasn't, then I didn't do any justice to my own abilities by settling for sub-par work.
My sketchbook is filled with "craptastic" drawings, but they were all practice, streams of consciousness, doodles, etc... Not final drafts. The final drafts are the best of what I could create when they were made, and I want them to reflect that. If you aren't happy with it because it isn't the best you could do, redraw it. Redraw it as many times as you feel the need to it. It's good practice, and you'll be happier with the result
