Image 2 of 3. I gained to a achieve strong and passionate imaginary by creating the unusual uncomfortable form and shapes, with extended usual yoga poses. Poses like these are very difficult and make the viewer feel some discomfort and question the purpose of imaginary. The richness of the color helps me to give the mysterious feel. I have chosen the intense red color purposely with an intention to pass the range of emotion from passionate, intense love to anger and danger. The red bow that ties the legs is indicative of the rules and regulations that society places upon itself in order to regulate a peaceful and abiding societal structure. The fact that the face is not seen represents a con- ceptual societal construct as opposed to one woman’s struggle. 2018 has seriously been a year for the books — this year has brought so many lessons, so many new relationships, and so many new perspectives. I couldn’t be more grateful for the experiences I have been having in this life. one of the most important lessons from this year for me has been learning to surrender; I’ve struggled with trying to maintain control over every aspect of my life, but I’m slowing learning to loosen the grip and just go with the flow of how things come. happiness and contentment doesn’t come from money, relationships, new belongings, the number of places we travel, or even the crazy yoga asanas we can put our bodies in — it comes from within. it comes from being content with whatever the hand you have in the moment is. I know it’s easier said than done, we’re all experiencing the fluctuations of life. sometimes we wake up feeling awesome, sometimes we wake up weighing down on ourselves. when I’m feeling down I try to remind myself: I am enough, I am perfect in this moment. as Osho says, it is not that good people go to paradise - wherever good people are, it becomes paradise.

Merry Christmas to you! This is a really different Christmas for me, but then again this whole year has been fairly different from my others. I’ve been using the remaining fragments of 2018 to be present with myself while giving gratitude to all of the momentous changes I’ve experienced over the past trip around the sun. I’m feeling truly grateful for all of the lessons I’ve learned this year, all of the new relationships that have bubbled up (and the familiar relationships that have continued to strengthen). 2019 is looking to be full of changes too, but I’m trying to embrace everything as it comes. What do you do in the face of change? Do you embrace it or do you resist it? Change is inevitable, so I’m trying to learn how to flow in peace with things, particularly if they challenge my dedication to something I truly believe in.

we live in a world of duality; right or wrong, this or that, positive or negative. sometimes things can’t succinctly fall into a simple category – they simply defy description with words. it’s easy to forget our true nature in the world we live in, but it’s important to reconnect with that nature by letting go of any agendas, expectations, or pressure by going outside and being apart of nature... because we are nature. the earth can sustain itself without us, but we cannot sustain ourselves without her. losing yourself in your senses is one of the most beautiful parts of being human; we have the ability to feel sand under our feet, sand that has taken millions of years evolving in form. feeling the energizing rejuvenation from the touch of the sunlight on our skin or seeing the delicacy and complexity of wild flowers growing in the dunes. allowing nature to coax you back into your skin, back into your essence is one of the most powerful healing tools for the mind and body... try spending some time observing, admiring, and slowing down in nature this holiday season – these are the things that defy description because they are something to be experienced, not described.

A N A H A T A: the heart chakra, the seat of the divine Self. symbolised by a lotus flower with twelve petals that represent bliss, harmony, peace, love, understanding, empathy, clarity, purity, unity, compassion, kindness, and forgiveness. the holidays can be a busy time of year, wrapping our work for the year, running around from event to event, reconnecting with family and old friends. for many, it brings lots of stress. try to take some time for yourself, to find stillness and reconnect with a sense of compassion for yourself. as we give so much during this season, don’t forget to give yourself some love too. come flow tonight at @onyxstudionz at 7:30 PM, tonight’s class will be a bit more restorative and nourishing to help give you some mental space and an opportunity to connect inward and temporarily escape the business of the holiday season. . @sarahlowe2002 is photographed here from our photo shoot out on the west coast yesterday. Sarah is from the UK and came down to Auckland to do her yoga teacher training; she reached out to me to have some yoga photos taken on the beautiful NZ coast before returning home for the new year. It’s so lovely crossing paths with new souls, getting to know one another, exchanging stories, sharing our love and excitement for yoga and energy work. blissful and chance encounters really are something special ✨

sthira and sukha: steadiness and ease, stability and comfort. it may seem paradoxical, but these are the adjectives that Patanjali says to embody in the Yoga Sutras. it could potentially represent the polarities within us too: the yin and yang, giving and receiving, the doing and the nourishing. in western culture I think yoga has become largely unconscious; we have taken a practice that by definition takes us on a journey through the Self and turned it into some type of dynamic workout. power yoga is what brought me to the mat 4 years ago, but I have continued this practice for different reasons. one of these reasons being awareness – I absolutely love having a deeply intimate relationship with every nook and cranny of my physical body. Yoga has taught me how to breath consciously to different parts of my body, how to concentrate energetic awareness in my littlest toe, how to engage the tiniest little muscles that without this practice I may have never given any thought to. this past weekend I went away for 4 days to explore the art of Bone Yoga. the yoga was incredibly restorative, slow, and nurturing. totally the opposite of anything I would have wanted to do maybe even a year ago. I slept under the stars in the countryside, I disconnected from the material world and plugged into my internal universe. by the end of the workshop I was able to move into twists moving each vertebra in my spine one at a time. I practiced Qi Gong for 2 hours each day and was able to put out a candle flame from a metre away with the energy I cultivated in my hands. we are powerful beings. we are capable of controlling every movement in our body and we are capable of healing ourselves from anything with our breath. we just have to tune in. life (and yoga) is not about rushing from one thing to the next mindlessly, but instead using each moment of stillness as an opportunity to work deeper into the different layers because that’s where the real lessons and strength lie.

“I am a witch, by which I mean that I am somebody who believes that the earth is sacred and that women and women’s bodies are one expression of that sacred thing.” today I chose to do a really deep hip opening practice; as many of us know we store a lot of emotions in our hips, personally I think it’s also where we store a lot of our guilt as it relates to sexual freedom, shame of our natural urges, and maybe even damaging actions that have been taken against us. as a woman, I believe it’s where our collective pain body lives. when I hip open, I try to focus on being held and supported by what we often take for granted, the support of the earth and her divine essence. we are so lucky to have the endless support and unconditional nurturing of this planet beneath us. as I inhale, I bring up her strength from the base of my spine, shining that energy up and out of my crown. as I exhale, I release any tension I’m carrying in my emotional, mental, or physical bodies. visualising this has helped (and is still helping me) release what no longer serves me. feel what you’re feeling, understand it, and let it go. when we don’t allow ourselves to feel it, when we push it away, it will manifest in some other form, the non-physical becomes physical. do you have any meditations or techniques you use to honour what you’re feeling? I’d love to hear them ❤️✨

Less stuff, more happiness*. As a start-up entrepreneur, almost 10 years ago, I chose to spend most of my time on unwaged work, earned very little money and couldn’t buy anything except the super basic or less. To get the picture: I once cried when my ketchup ran out and I couldn’t afford to buy a new. This was one of my happiest years of my life**. 🌈 I learned that items do not bring me happiness. People, purpose and health do.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For this Christmas this year, maybe skip the decorative cat or sweater that doesn’t fit and get something different. We live in a world where we have all the material possessions we want, but we aren’t taught the skills we need to stop and take time for ourselves. How about a learn how to deal with life gift? Journaling workshop, therapist/coach session, healthy cooking class, meditation course, or private yoga class? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I got your back covered for the private yoga class. Link in bio for my Christmas special. 🎄 Suits everyone from teenagers that need less screen time, gym-people who are "too stiff" for yoga (please let me prove them wrong!), stay at home mums who need a break or your grandparents who want to stay active for longer. You can even take the class together if you want to. 😍⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ *The name of Graham Hill’s TED Talk on the subject, highly recommend it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ **I’ve full respect for all people with limited income NOT choosing this lifestyle and their real struggles. I was (and am) very privileged to make that choice for myself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #lessstuffmorehappiness #giftthatisgoodforyou #dealingwithlife ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #privateyogaclass #aucklandyoga #aucklandyogateacher #newzealandyoga #nzyoga #morningsideforlife #mteden #mtedenvillage #greylynn #mtalbert #kingslandnz #takecareofyourself #bestgiftever #giftideas #christmasgifts #aucklandchristmas #christmasgiftideas #supportyourlocalyogateacher #sararemnerthyoga #savasanafordays

why do mala beads have 108 beads? this answer changes depending on the culture or discipline. The first mention of Yoga was in the Vedic scriptures, of which there are 108 chapters of the Rigveda, 108 Upanishads, and 108 primary tantras. As well as, Sanskrit having 54 characters with masculine form (Shiva) and 54 characters with the feminine form (Shakti). 108 is considered to be a holy number, known for countless patterns and divisions — the sacred geometric shape known as the Yantra is said to come out of this number too. 108 being the exact ratio of the Sun to our Earth as well. So, there are countless stories on how we arrive to the number of beads in your mala necklace. . Japa mala meditation evokes a continuous form through their circular shape — it is the devoted offering of repeated mantras. Within the mala, like all universal life, there is a sense of beginning, continuation, and completion. These beads allow us to embody the rhythmic cycles that are always present in the universe. Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer.

working on something new, playing around and falling out of poses then getting back up and continuing to work towards it for months until you finally feel steady and stable where you used to wobble. that’s honestly one of my favorite parts of the asana practice, allowing myself to fall and smiling about it because I’m enjoying the moment and the fact that we always have room to grow. This is something I like to welcome into my life on and off the mat, currently I’m trying so many new things and wobbling a lot in the process but somehow finding a smile and a sense of lightness. it’s always fun to have projects to be working on, things to grow...

I’m feeling really grateful for this space today, it’s a new studio in downtown auckland and the owners @ximenaxaraufitness and Brook went out on a whim with hiring someone freshly done with their yoga teacher training to launch their yoga programme. One of my favorite things about teaching here is the trust that Ximena has in my teachings and me, she allows me to teach yoga from the heart and doesn’t try to change it. I thought it was an unconventional start to teaching since it wasn’t a “traditional yoga studio” but I know this is exactly where I need to be right now – everyone here feels like family and these are the people who are helping me find my voice as a teacher. This place is a judgement free zone, full of love, community, and support. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to spend time with such beautiful, open-minded people in this beautiful space. ✨❤️

well everyone, I gave the corporate world another shot but pulled the plug on that one after the first day. I refuse to position myself with work that does not align with my belief system. fast fashion, mindless consumption, and and ignoring our gut feelings is (in my opinion) why the world and environment is the way it currently is. I think it’s important to give new opportunities a chance, but at the same time we still need to listen to the feelings inside that are screaming at us to stop or leave. working with the largest retailer in New Zealand to further their bottom line, encouraging mindless spending from people, while ravaging the natural world and it’s resources is something I can’t ignore and something I refuse to be apart of. I’m grateful I gave it a shot, because now I am feeling even more fired up. Changing the world starts within, if you’re unhappy in your current circumstances then make a change – you don’t need to be apart of organisations you don’t support. Vote with your dollars *research the companies you’re buying from* and vote with your labor *dont compromise your happiness, sanity, or mental & physical health just for financial security* . Join me on the mat tonight at 7:30 pm at @onyxstudionz as we strengthen the backline of the body so we can move confidently and strongly into the future. Lots of love to everyone xx

“If you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right!” -Henry Ford This photo has been a beautiful reminder for me to never put limitations on myself! It has taken me years of maintaining a dedicated yoga practice to get myself, body and my mind, to the place I am today! Believe that you can do WHATEVER it is you set out to do, give everything and anything all of your intention and effort, and watch yourself make your wildest dreams come true! 🙏❤️ #yoga #aucklandyoga #aucklandyogateacher #motivation #sweat #intentions #yourright

“We think that the world is limited by its past. We tend to think that what happened in the past determines what is going to happen next, and we do not see that it is exactly the other way around. What is always the source of the world is the present; the past doesn’t explain anything. The past trails behind the present like the wake of a ship and eventually disappears.” Yoga is a reminder to be here now, to be in this physical body now, to have full bodily awareness now. The now is always moving, yet always still. Sometimes it feels like the present moment is always escaping us, which is why it’s important to give ourselves a moment where we surrender to the present, releasing all expectations of our past or future beliefs. . If you’re in Auckland come into the now tonight at 7:30 pm at @onyxstudionz.

Celebrating one year since my yoga teacher training started today! 🎉 O N E Y E A R. 🤷🏻‍♀️ A part of me feels like it was yesterday. The other part feels I’ve never done anything else. I’m celebrating the hard work I’ve put in but also the fact that it’s been easier than I expected. I’ve taught over 170 classes at studios, offices, gyms and homes. 🙏 I never planned to teach this much but classes kept coming my way and you can’t really say no to do more of what you love, right? . I want to add that it’s not only been sunshine; I’ve been worrying about paying the bills. A lot. 🌧 I’ve been mentally and physically tired and imposter syndrome is real. But it’s worth it. Teaching is the best way of learning and I’ve have you, my beautiful students, to thank for that. 😘 . Come celebrate with me, join one of my classes this week! 🧘🏻‍♀️ Full schedule at www.sararemnerth.com or via link in bio. . . . #mystudentsarethebest #teachingisthebestwayoflearning #cantimagendoinganythingelse Picture taken at and borrowed from @mondayswholefoods

this past weekend was incredible, one of the first beach weekends of the summer with some amazing friends and lots of beautiful nature around (shout out to @ryanmcvibes for the photo!!) what better way to settle back into the week after a holiday weekend than a vinyasa class?! come flow tonight at 7:30 pm at @onyxbarrestudio. . Tonight’s class has a focus on opening the anahata chakra. releasing energy that’s no longer serving us allows us to make decisions from a place of love, rather than fear. Tonight’s practice is all about releasing the unconscious patterns that can prohibit us from really connecting to our intuitive heart center. Shed some layers and free yourself from the shackles of the mind and it’s mental conditioning ✨

one hand on the belly, one hand on the heart. I love feeling the gentle rise and fall of the tummy, while simultaneously feeling the constant beat of my heart. In yoga we consciously direct awareness to the breath, but how often do you consciously tune into the heart? The constant beating and thumping that’s always there, without us ever needing to think about it. My heart is growing with excitement and love thinking about heading back to Atlanta in just two short weeks. Living abroad is amazing, but man I am excited to squeeze the people I’ve loved for lifetimes and be in the community I was raised in again for a few weeks. . If you’re in Auckland, come nourish yourself tonight at 7:30 pm at @onyxbarrestudio for a 60 minute vinyasa class — flowing to stillness. ✨💕🧘🏼‍♀️

Why LightLove? I believe that all life is made of light, love, and consciousness. Exploring consciousness and meditation has been one of the greatest gifts that has come out of my yoga practice. Which is why I’m excited to announce this next endeavour of mine, LightLove Therapy. I’ll now be offering light therapy sessions out of @kiakahastudios in Takapuna. . What does a session look like? A session will be 60-90 minutes in duration with a consultation for your specific needs. The session will begin with a light yoga sequence to open and release tension in the physical body, followed with light pranayama, a guided grounding meditation, and finally a 20-30 minute light session. . Bookings are essential, please reach out to Kia Kaha or email me at lightloveyogini@gmail.com if you’re interested in learning more.
