Huge news, and I need your help to do it! Swipe Left and I'll explain, then let's make a parts list and game plan in the comments.
Here's what I've got to work with: a 1967 mustang with an original 289 v8, 3 speed automatic. The trans is going out. It slips out of gear regularly, re-engaging at random, and it leaks fluid like crazy.
The Ford 9" I actually snagged FOR FREE on Craigslist a number of years back from some dude that was moving. The 5 speed I picked up on CL before I got sick, so these parts have been waiting a long time.
I don't know anything about this stuff, and if we're gonna be successful I'm going need to have a complete parts list, so I'll out the info I do have and you guys ask questions, point me in the right direction, or if you want to be a hero, dig through your parts pile or call a buddy if you think what I need is sitting around.
The 9" is a 3:73 and I have a whole crate of drum brake stuff that came with it. I believe between that and the rear drums that are on the car now, we'll probably have enough to swap that easy. But ha, let's not take my word for it, I only have half a brain. Ask questions, help me make sure I'm not missing anything
The transmission has a lot more unknowns. First, will it fit? It's not from a v8 car, all I know is it was a foxbody mustang. I found a metal tab with this coding on it: E5SR-7003-AA REP-AD 3-52-114 22642 E1752 so hopefully someone smart can follow that clue. I know I'll need a bell housing (what one and how to find it, I'm not sure) for sure, plus whatever one needs to swap these into a vintage mustang. I know this is a common swap, they make kits to do this.
So yeah, that's what I have. A bunch of junk and some pretty big dreams. Now let's start a together! With your brains, my stoke, and a bunch of us wrenching at the track, I think this could be the best adventure yet!
