I guess this will be one of the toughest updates I’ve ever posted.
2 years ago I started my journey towards The World Championships in South Africa, with the ambition to qualify through Ironman 70.3 Dubai. I came to Dubai in great shape, which secured me the win and by that a spot for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in South Africa.
Since my win I’ve had my eyes on the World Championships in September. But then something happened... 3 weeks ago a car drove out in front of me during my training ride and I crashed with 40 km/h. At first sight I survived the crash with only a few scratches and some minor pain in my ribs and right hip. So for the last 3 weeks I’ve been trying to get back to a proper amount of training. Unfortunately, without luck. For every push in the pedals, every stroke in the water and every step of running I’ve had pain in my body. Also during my everyday life. So as you probably already figured out by now, then I won’t be on the start line for this years Ironman 70.3 World Championships. My body needs to rest and I have to respect that.
My road to South Africa stops here, but hopefully I’ll get a new chance to race a World Championship race in the future. #illbeback
