Did you know!?: The closest relative to the Elephant is a Manatee!! This would explain why elephants LOVE the water so much. It also should tell us that elephants don't need humans to bathe them (though often time captive elephants and even sanctuaries will have humans bathing the elephants)- Elephants are perfectly capable, happy and prefer to have the water to themselves to play, wash and move their large bodies freely 💕🐘 . . #Didyouknow #nowyouknow #elephants #manatees #gentlegiants #swim #bathe #free #love #water #wild #elephant #elephanttusk #tusker #tusks #elephanttrunk #elephantlove #elephantlover #elephantlovers #loveelephants #bekindtoelephants #funfact #fact #themoreyouknow

Where do we begin... 🤔❓ ~~~ We love animals and elephants have a special place in our hearts, since they are such unique gentle creatures 💚. Unfortunately, riding elephants is still one of the most popular tourist activities in Asia and we are so saddened by the fact that there are people who have "riding an elephant" in their bucket list. But we're not here to blame anyone, since we know it's the lack of awareness that allows this to happen, rather than people's malice. 🤦‍♂️ ~~~ Many people don't know that wild elephants won’t let humans ride on top of them. So in order to tame a wild elephant, it is tortured as a baby to completely break its spirit. In Thailand the process is called Phajaan, or “the crush” 😥 ~~~ It involves ripping baby elephants away from their mothers and confining them in a very small space, like a cage or hole in the ground where they’re unable to move. If an elephant 'sanctuary' or wildlife park offers elephant riding, circuses or painting shows, you can be certain the elephants have undergone horrific abuse to get them to where they are. 🚫🛑 ~~~ However, there's a lot of good news, too. Many camps are now becoming ride-free as a result of pressure from tourists, the industry and the media. There are sanctuaries that save elephants from the riding industry and give them back their freedom and dignity, like the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary in Chiang Mai, which we visited in this photo. Also, we were so happy to find that when you search #elephantriding or related tags on Instagram, you won't get any results, but an informative message instead. You can try it. 👌 ~~~ Elephants are a lot like humans. They socialize, have families and friends, feel pain, sorrow and happiness, and most important - elephants never forget! So let's treat them right! 🤗 ~~~ Sorry for the long post. You're awesome if you've read this far!🙌 Thank you and please spread the awareness! 💙🐘🌍 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••• #elephantjunglesanctuary #elephant🐘 #bekindtoelephants #saveelephants #elephantlover #elephantlove #asianelephant #babyelephants #elephantlovers #elephantfamily
