Century: Golem Edition is a re-themed version of Century: Spice Road, but otherwise the two games play exactly the same. The Golem Edition has more of a fantasy theme, where players acquire, upgrade, and trade crystals (instead of cubes representing spices) to please crystal golems. The artwork has more of a cartoonish and colorful look. However, the Golem Edition will not be supported in the future as far as we know, and as such, there won’t be Golem Editions of the newer games in the series.
We both agree that we actually like the look and theme of the Golem Edition better than that of the original Spice Road. The colors are more vibrant and the artwork is really well done. That being said, we still ended up getting Spice Road over Golem Edition because of the continuation of the theme in the other games in the series, like Century: Eastern Wonders. We have yet to try Eastern Wonders, but we wanted to make sure we had the option to continue in the series with the same look. Especially considering how cool the Century: Spice Road and Century: Eastern Wonders boxes look when they’re side by side with their continuing artwork!
