In winter, the #ThreeSistersWilderness can be a committing place. You really have to put in some skin time just to get back there which makes these backcountry adventures feel a bit more compelling. From there you can let your imagination run wild. Camping below the Broken Top cirque there’s a lot of pointing and “What do you think of that line!?” “What if we toured up, optioned left, and dropped into the belly?” or the classic “Do you think it goes?”. And that’s in part what it’s all about. There’s the freedom to dream up whatever you want to do with what the terrain gives you. Of course, everything looks easier when you’re drinking a beer at camp with top notch ski in-ski out accommodations. From the top however – risk vs reward. There’s no redpointing these lines like in rock climbing.
Near the SW summit of Broken Top – it goes. And it goes pretty big.
Special thanks to the all-star Bend community. Nothing quite like a couple of strangers on snowmobiles picking up a couple of weary, knackered AF hitchhikers to knock out the last mile. Bend will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Also to @budjac for the beta/pizza as well as @sunkissed171 and @rbend609 for the hospitality.
