Shannon Nelson (@shnelson7)is a spoken word poet originating from North Carolina and now living in Brooklyn, NYC. For an occupation, Shannon works in financial services, but through spoken word poetry she's able to give voice and beauty to her identity as a black christian women. "In places like New York, it's hard to be present. Through my writing I've learned how to slow down and take it what's in front of me. How something smells, looks, all of it. In addition learning how to observe has helped me express my emotions better." Shannon is an entirely kind-hearted individual. Through poetry she offers a gift, as she beautifies a space with words that speaks of God, heartbreak, or pain. Her words offer a connection from her experiences to another, which she believes can help others make sense of their own experiences. • The Lives of Suns
