Let’s talk POST SHOW WATER RETENTION! 💦 . For those who aren’t familiar with how post show works, most of us will retain a bit of water within a few days of competing, which means the scale goes up and the definition in our body smooths over a bit. Why? How? Well, the week leading up to our shows - we deplete our bodies, manipulate water, etc. Then, after our shows we enjoy some meals/treats that usually contain a high amount of carbs and sodium which our bodies are certainly not used to after dieting for so long. So therefore, we retain water! It’s fine and perfectly normal and things normalize after a little while. How long that takes depends on an individual and when we jump back into our regular training/diet structure. . For me, I took 5 days off of any sort of dieting, lifted weights 3 out of 7 days of the week and only did LISS (low intensity steady state) cardio for 7 days of the week. As mentioned in my previous post, my coach and I did this to give my body a mental and physical break and reboot before I go into a second prep. . Alright so HOW am I dealing with seeing my body retaining water, abs in hiding and definition slightly faded all over and WHAT am I doing to “flush” it out? 🤔 . 💦 Drinking LOTS of water & green tea 💦 Eating natural diuretic foods like cucumbers and asparagus 💦 Few sessions in the sauna post cardio 💦 Covering up during my workouts to REALLY sweat! 💦 Reminding myself that this break was NECESSARY 💦 The weight jump and water retention is TEMPORARY and that things will balance out especially once things are in full throttle prep mode starting tomorrow (back to double cardio, regular lifting schedule in conjunction to my already structured diet) 💦 Lastly... NO REGRETS, NO STRESS, BE PATIENT, BE CONSISTENT, JUST UTILIZE THE EXTRA CALORIES and ENJOY THE FULL ASS MUSCLES! . Just get back into your regular routine and implement the tips above and you’ll be gucci gang! Just like our fitness journey’s every body is different... for some it may take a few days to balance out, some a week and even some two weeks, and it’s A OK!! 🙌🏻 ____________________ Sports bra: @victoriasecret Leggings: @lululemon Watch: @fitbit
