I can’t remember a time that I wasn’t addicted to sugar. How about you? Living that Nourish Bowl Life 💚 I can’t stress this enough: Balanced Eating does not need to be fancy or complicated. If you fill your meals with a variety of produce (focusing on veggies & leafy greens), high quality protein, & healthy fats, you should feel energized & satiated. I also recommend that you try to drink at least 64 ounces of filtered water per day. Adding spices & seasonings to your meals adds flavor & dimension, because who wants boring food? Many spices also have nutritional benefits: turmeric is a potent anti inflammatory, especially when eaten with black pepper. Everyone is different (I’m a firm believer in bio-individuality), so you will need to experiment to find the foods that work best for you. Don’t feel pressure to follow trendy diets & fads. Trust your intuition & listen to your body’s signals. If this is a new process for you, give it time. If you’ve been in the habit of ignoring your body’s cues, you might need to “reset” the communication pathway. You can do this through mindful eating, going slow, & checking-in with yourself to see how certain foods make you feel. If you eat slowly, you will also give yourself more time to learn your “full signals”, and chewing more thoroughly improves digestion, so it’s a win-win. It's getting chilly and turning on the heat at home is unavoidable. If your loved one with dementia lives in the UK, here are five ways they can get help with heating bills: 1. Winter Fuel Payment This is not means tested, so if you or the person you care for was born on or before 5 August 1953 you could be entitled to between £100- £300 to help with heating bills. This won’t affect other benefits. Most people who are eligible receive their payment automatically between November and December and everyone should have received it by January 15. 2. Cold Weather Payment If temperatures in your area fall below freezing, you might be able to get more money. This additional payment is given to people who are receiving Pension Credit, Income Support or Universal Credit. 3. Affordable Warmth Grant If you struggle to keep their home warm and cosy, it might be that they need better insulation or a new boiler you might be entitled to this Government grant, though you will probably have to make a contribution towards the improvement cost. 4. Warm Home Discount This entitles you to a one-off discount on your electricity bill from September to March (up to £140). To qualify, you need to be receiving the Guarantee Credit part of Pension Credit. 5. Charitable Grants If you are still struggling, you might be able to get a charitable grant. 🥗 Fuel your smile at lunchtime! I love to make this tuna salad recipe weekly and portion it out into 2oz serving portions to add atop a big salad at work. This recipe is protein pumped as I sub out Mayo for Non-fat Greek Yogurt. This substitution not only ups the nutritional value but also decreases fat and calories by more than half! Each 2oz portion has about 75 calories, 2 grams of carbs, 15 g of protein and only 1 g of fat! Tuna has a wide range of health benefits, from improving blood vessel function to boosting weight loss. Besides containing high-quality protein, selenium and potassium, canned tuna also possesses omega-3 fatty acids and B and D vitamins. Greek yogurt is an awesome source of protein and calcium as well. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium while boosting bone mineral density, so it’s crucial to get an adequate amount of vitamin D to get the most out of your calcium intake. Like vitamin D, potassium improves bone mineral density. It also works with magnesium to prevent blood from becoming too acidic, which can leach calcium from your bones and teeth. Ingredients: 2 5 oz cans of tuna in water. 1/4 cup non fat Greek yogurt. 2-3 stalks of celery chopped up. 1 small carrot 🥕 chopped up. About 1/4 cup diced red onion. 2 tsp stone ground mustard. 🍞 Macadamia Bread 🍞 . No flour/gluten, no grains, no sugar! . If you follow a keto or paleo diet then you must try this bread! Or if you just want something yummy to try if you are avoiding gluten in your diet. . To make : 1 cup raw macadamia 1 cup coconut butter/manna 5 eggs 2 Tbs lemon juice 1 tsp baking soda Pinch sea salt . Place nuts in food processor until smooth but slightly crunchy, drop in eggs one at a time. Blend in remaining ingredients. Bake in bread pan greased with butter at 350F for 35 mins. . True Story- I had a friend who I let share a room with me and allowed her to pay $200 rent when I paid $700. When I asked her to start paying more, she became violent and yelled at me. She talked bad about me to other friends and constantly disrespected me. Never apologized for her actions. I had another friend who I watched her dog while she worked long hours. I never asked for payment. Sometimes she would leave her dog for days and when I’d try to contact her she wouldn’t respond to texts or calls until the next day. Sometimes I’d have to buy food for her dog and sometimes I’d wonder if she’s ever coming back for her dog. A few times she apologized and offered to take me on a beach house trip and to a theme park. She made plans and I got excited to go. Both offers were canceled. One day I noticed a bump on her dogs ear and sent her a pic. She responded right away, sent someone to get her dog and then blamed me for her dogs bump that had to be surgically removed. I had a boss around that time who became angry when I couldn’t read a note handwritten by her at the bottom of a printout. She came to my desk and circled with a pen around and around saying “can’t you read”, “are you fu#cking stupid”. What these people did to me wasn’t very nice but I allowed it and by continuing to allow people to disrespect me it then became my fault. I finally learned to remove people like that from my life. I blocked them from my phone and social media, stopped talking to anyone associated with them and never looked back. I was sad, hurt and lonely for awhile but eventually my life started getting better and better. I started attracting people in my life who respected me and honored their word. You won’t truly know until you see for yourself how much better life is without mean and toxic people in your inner circle. I now stand my ground and won’t ever tolerate being treated without the respect I deserve. Self Love 101
