“I am also an organ, I also get inflamed” Sincerely The brain 🧠 Just like any other organ in our body, if we don’t take care of our brain it will eventually start to”act out”. We actually take care of our brain through the food we eat among other things and now more than ever, science shows us how the food we eat has an impact in our body in general and how when it causes inflammation, chronic illnesses and illnesses like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s develop. I read that there are no receptors of pain in the brain, so we usually don’t know it’s inflamed until it’s too late. For example if your knee has an inflammation, it hurts and you know you need to do something, the brain behaves differently, we have no way of knowing there is an inflammation process until we get sick...I have learned the hard way,I took my body for granted...the sad part is that no one learns from somebody else’s experience...☹️ The good news is that if done on time, the brain has the capability of healing and a lot of the times it can revert the illness through a process called “neuroplasticity”. ✨DHA for mental health ✨ It’s pretty well known by now that omega 3s are important for cognitive health. It’s a major structural component of neuronal membranes and many randomized controlled trials show a significant improvement in depression with omega 3 intake. While ALA, which is the plant form of omega 3, can be metabolized into EPA/DHA, this process is highly inefficient and even more so when the person is already experiencing stress & inflammation. Obtaining EPA/DHA from responsibly sourced fish allows for greater bioavailability of the nutrients. . . What many people aren’t aware of is that our RATIO of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids has been knocked way off due in large part to the Standard American Diet. Many of the foods, as well as (toxic) industrial seed oils we consume in processed & restaurant food are high in omega 6. It is estimated that our ancestors carried about a 1:1 or 3:1 ratio, while the average American has about a 16:1 ratio now. Even healthy foods such as nuts are often higher in omega 6 fats, therefore contributing to the imbalance. (But don’t stop eating nuts!!) . Consuming a few servings of fish per week- the lower on the food chain, the better 🐟 is helpful in lowering inflammation and supporting cognitive health, to name a few. Fish like sardines and herring are small and therefore don’t bioaccumulate toxins like larger fish, and have longer mating periods/shorter lifespans, allowing for greater population regeneration. Choosing companies that use pole and line methods and have sustainability regulations is a VERY important responsibility we have to keep our oceans healthy and prevent overfishing.
