Over the last couple weeks, my state has been rampaged by tragedy and heartbreak. Human beings being murdered and entire towns being burnt to the ground are not how we Californians imagined bringing in the holiday season this year. Yet, as the death toll and missing persons lists continue to rise, and as the fire continues to rage across hundreds of thousands of acres, we see light and hope and love as the nation comes alongside us to hold our hands, and support those who have lost everything. Donations, both practical and monetary, flood drop off stations; businesses offer free services to anyone displaced; animals are saved and reunited; hotel rooms are paid in full for those who have lost everything.
Those of us who are not in danger are left with the ever present reminder of the devastation as we look out our windows and see nothing but gray. We spend as little time outside as possible because of the air quality, while thousands of first responders work endlessly in the line of danger breathing in the smoke without escape.
Pray for our state. Pray for our people. Pray for our children. Pray for our leaders. Pray for our government. Pray for the families who have lost everything, including their loved ones. Pray for the first responders who are putting their lives on the line to save what is still left of the golden state after a record breaking summer of flames. .
